Selectism - omar-kashoura

We continue our second look series with a look at Omar Kashoura. We’ve featured Omar a fair bit lately, so we felt it right to get in touch and find out more about his inspirations, love of fabrics and his background. As you’d expect, it’s all after the leap.

Omar Kashoura Knitted Polo

As we’ve noted before, the best thing about the great pattern rush of this season™ is that patterns that were being dismissed as too crazy in the plain jane days of last summer are now being embraced this year. Take this Omar Kashoura polo for instance. Compared to some of the patterns we’ve seen it’s almost tame, so at least now people will just see it for a great piece instead of being scared of anything that wasn’t already a trend. Omar Kashoura ‘Julian’ Reversible Mac

We’re always up for a reversible coat, especially a mac. This Omar Kashoura number does the job for us on both counts. A lot of reversible pieces feature questionable reverse options, this one sticks to the classic navy and beige. If the price is too much for you, just consider it a two for one offer. Just don’t blame us if no one buys that as an excuse. (Oki-Ni)

Omar Kashoura Autumn/Winter 2011

More London based menswear goodness, this time with Omar Kashoura. Called the ‘Click Brigade’, the name is taken from “feeling of binding together with a sense of efficiency and relevance, amalgamated with the feeling of a large body of people, the sense of a group of individuals coming together to reach a common goal.”

Or something like that. Either way, there’s plenty of desirable clothes on show, including that beautiful double breasted blazer above. Take that leap, see those images.

Omar Kashoura Sponge Jacket

One of the more annoying comments we get  – although they all seem to have taken a negative turn of late – is the ‘you can get this at (insert awful quality high street store here) kind. We’ve often said that some pieces you just have to feel to understand it’s quality and this is one of them. It’s made from navy marl – yes the kind used in sweatpants – which has copper woven throughout. The end result is a ridonkoulously soft blazer that can be worn to a smart event (funerals excluded, obviously). Fancy phrases are great for explanation but sometimes just copping a feel is enough to see that this is several steps above whatever you can get from J.Crew. Just trust us, have we ever let you down? (don’t answer that). [Daniel Jenkins]

New Faces of Menswear | Omar Kashoura Interview

09 April 2010, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - omar-kashoura-oki-ni-interview

Oki-Ni have a nice interview up with Omar Kashoura. Well, we say interview, it’s more of a friendly chat in print form. Without giving away the whole thing, here’s a snippet of Mr. Skelton’s chat with Omar Kashoura.

John Skelton | As a designer do you set out with the intention of creating a brand?
Omar Kashoura | I think at the beginning you set out to become a brand, to create a brand but after 2 seasons you’re like ‘forget the brand, I want to make money!’. As a designer, to see that your line is going to turn into a big brand is quite a distant thing and a bit of a dream really. But for me personally, quality is the most important thing. You can tell when the product has been made in an Italian mill, and that’s when it becomes a brand. That’s more what I want to happen- to be supported by one of these mills and have them produce everything from sample to production. I am very involved in the sample process, I do a lot of sewing myself and I enjoy it but it does get really frustrating trying to maintain quality and still keep up with demands of being a young designer.

Omar Kashoura Tear Drop Shorts

Selectism - omar-kashoura-tear-drop-shorts-01

It’s taken a little while for some SS10 collections to find their way into stores, but it looks like Omar Kashoura’s collection has landed at Oki-Ni. It’s still just a tad early to be buying shorts but, considering the fact that stores will be stuffed with winter parkas come July and August, it’s worth buying ahead. The topic of short shorts always come up during summer and our answer is as always – No. Don’t do it. We’d instead opt for a short this length, just above the knee. You can always roll these up if they’re not short enough – anything’s preferable to the creepy P.E teacher look. (Oki-Ni)
