Outlier Soft Core Rain Shirts

outlier rain shirt 1 Outlier Soft Core Rain Shirts

Oh, Outlier. Your Keirin Cut Dungarees are so comfortable, resilient and good-looking that ever since putting them on it has been hard to get excited about any other pants in the dresser drawer—even a pair of fancy Marc Jacobs jeans excavated from the bottom of a clearance pile. This damn rain shirt looks to be cut from the same attention-ensnaring cloth. Well, not technically the same cloth—this guy is lined with Superfine Merino wool, for starters—but this combination of their Soft Core Wool Vest and Supermarine Rain Shirt has us thinking fondly of the nylon coach’s jackets we’d buy at the sporting goods store in high school. A grown up and refined version that’s essentially a cozy, water resistant dress shirt. - jt

Outlier, Hyperlite – The Minimal Backpack

Outlier, Hyperlite - The Minimal Backpack

Hyperlite Mountain Gear works a new backpack for the boys at Outlier. Their Minimal Backpack is made using Hyperlite textiles and comes in looking very light indeed. Expect the white pack to get worked, which is of course the point of the pack. While we may not stuff bread directly into the back itself (keep it wrapped in paper)*, it does help show the volume of the Minimal Backpack. Hits home at $128. Find it online at Outlier.

* the gentleman at Outlier have informed us that those are bricks and not bread, which makes the bag all the more impressive. I would still have preferred bread sticks.

nicks picks Eight for the Holidays | Nick Schonberger from Complex

How we miss Nick… our old pal may have moved onto bigger and “better” things over at Complex, but we still keep in touch. An “Eight for the Holidays” allows us the opportunity to pick his brains about the very best in his world today – rather,  goods and items that he would love in his world. Like Mr. Yang’s eight items, Mr. Schonberger’s range give us a nice mix. Expect vinyl records, live mammals and more.

ML Brown for Outlier Braided Keychains

ML Brown for Outlier Braided Keychains

Braided leather keychains remain a useful accessory for those on the go. They lock in that keyfob (using that word now) and ensure that you dont lose your freaking keys while riding or walking. ML Brown and Co. worked these for our friends at Outlier. Keys are locked down by a Harken-5 stainless steel shackle. Well made and a strong gift for anyone in your life, but better for the guys. Do not confuse them for bicycle locks, please.

Outlier – Technical Merino Cardigan

Outlier - Technical Merino Cardigan

We asked Outlier to be part of our PROJECT 10 ensemble this year for a slew of reasons: their love for similar music, their independent steez and mostly for their to the point collection of garments with an active/technical wearer in mind. Their latest merino wool tech cardigan is a proper look. Made with “double faced merino/nylon fabric, done up with a shawl collar and custom Corozo buttons.” We overuse the word “clean” at time but that about sums it up. Available from Outlier.

outlier chino mens pants 1 The Outlier Autumnweight 60/30 Chinos

Outlier works over the classic chino with a 60/30 twill from Schoeller Textiles. Soft and sturdy, the fabrics stretches nicely for riding and climbing around. The secret, from their end, is the four way stretch that keeps you free to move as you please. The integrated waist-bands keeps it all up. Try them yourself.

PROJECT 10 | Outlier

Project 10 Outlier-01

Regular readers will no doubt be aware of our love of Brooklyn-based OUTLIER. Abe Burmeister tells us about where they are from and where we are at.

Where are you from?

New York City.

How did you start?

I couldn’t find the pants I wanted. I wanted pants I could ride through a rainstorm, go to a business meeting, and then go out for the night. I spent a year trying to find them and couldn’t. Then figured I’d just make them for myself.

What are the key features of your brand?

For us, it is really about problem solving. We’re not interested in making a product unless it doesn’t exist in the market. We want to make your day easier through clothing. We’ve built an expertise bringing high tech fabrics and bringing them into a more fashionable urban context.

What’s it like being part of Project 10?

It’s been fun. It is a great opportunity to come out and expose ourselves to a different side of the clothing world. We’ve only been on the floor for half a day, but so far so good.

Finally, what is your favorite thing about Vegas?

You’re asking the hard questions today. I’m a poker player, so that’s what I end up doing.

Photography by Pete Williams for Selectism.
