Junya Watanabe Knitted Overshirt

Selectism - junya-watanabe-knitted-overshirt-01

Like every menswear blogger in the world right now, we can’t resist a bit of Watanabe. Now that everyone’s creamed themselves over the varsities, it’s time to look at some other bits from the collection – like this knitted overshirt. If you want a tweak or a twist Watanabe is your guy, the only thing stopping us from not going head to toe Watanabe is our lack of a sugar momma to supply our habit. We’re still taking applications people. (Firmanent)

First Look | SEH Kelly Overshirt

We’re all about the overshirt, especially when it’s modelled by someone who’s been taking style tips from Mikhail Gorbachev. With menswear folks now wearing all sorts of outlandish gear – or at least pretending to on their websites (no shots, don’t get sensitive) – the idea that the overshirt was once a step out of people’s comfort zones is rather quaint. But hey, today’s problems are tomorrows afterthoughts and all that. We’re not sure that’s a real phrase but it works. Take a leap to see more looks at this shirt.

Larke Overshirt

Larke Overshirt

In anticipation of autumn we collectively look toward sourcing idyllic layering pieces, met with the task of finding garments that are as practical as they are stylish. Autumn/Winter 2011 sees British label Larke release their grey wool herringbone overshirt, which we suggest confidently meets the aforementioned criteria. The shirt offers great insulation thanks to the fabrication choice; a dense yet soft wool that needs little in the way of decoration, simply finished with a contrasting charcoal band that rises from the hem, along with a series of dark buttons providing a subtle accent to the light body of the garment. Now available at The Great Divide. -jr

Adam Kimmel for Carhartt Denim Overshirt

19 July 2011, 12.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - adam-kimmel-carhartt-shirt-01

Unless we’re sorely mistaken, this is the first season the Kimmel for Carhartt collection is appearing in stores. The prices are definitely more Adam Kimmel than Carhartt but the collab itself makes sense. It’s not exactly denim overshirt weather right now but if you have chilly nights (or chilly days if you’re in the UK) it’s a great substitute jacket. (French Trotters)

Libertine Libertine Quilted Shacket

Selectism - libertine-libertine-overshirt-01

Too hot for your Barbour but still want some quilting in your life? Well, this shacket should do the trick. We’re still not sure about using the word ’shacket’ in everyday life, but it’s better than saying ‘it’s kinda like a shirt and kinda like a jacket’ whenever someone asks you about it. Shacket discussion aside, we like the look of this and it’s a nice halfway house now the weather’s really heating up. (Hunting & Collecting)

Monitaly Wool Overshirt

Selectism - monitaly-wool-overshirt-01

We’re suckers for an overshirt, especially when it’s just a little too warm for chunky knitwear. A piece like this isn’t going to revolutionise your wardrobe or anything fancy, but it’s a good – some might even say handsome – piece that’ll work with a lot of what you already have. And it’s made in America and all that jazz. (Superdenim)

Patrik Ervell Winter Buttondown

Selectism - patrik-ervell-winter-overshirt-01

This is one of those Wiley-esque ‘Wot do you call it’ pieces. Sure, it’s officially called a button-down, but it’s more of an overshirt/light jacket. Whatever you wanna call it, it’ll look great on and the navy colourway will please the bright-colour-phobics (do you call that brightophobia?) out there. It’s not a world changing piece (and that’s just a phrase for any slow readers out there, we don’t actually think clothes can change the world) but it’s a solid wardrobe addition. (Opening Ceremony)

Heritage Research Climbing Shirt

Selectism - heritage-research-climbing-shirt-01

Given the UK’s changeable weather, we’re always on the lookout for an overshirt when the chill hits. This Heritage Research climbing shirt looks like it’ll fit the bill nicely – provided you size up. While we hate going all fashion-nazi, please don’t double up on your denim with this, it’s just something you’ll regret in a year’s time. (Oi Polloi)

Norse Projects ‘Milkman’ Overshirt

Selectism - norse-projects-milkman-shirt-01

We’re all about the overshirt this spring. It’s an easy method of layering up and you’ll avoid the too hot/too cold problem that blights us when the weather’s still deciding which way it wants to go. What we really like about this piece (aside from the functional side pockets) is the space for pattern mixing. While you can be sensible shoe dave and wear it with a plain tee, a much better solution would be to be a nice contrasting pattern as an undershirt – the crazier the better.  (Goodhood)

Albam Burgundy Overshirt

selectism - albam-burgundy-overshirt-01

We’ve recently fallen in love with overshirts. It’s not that we didn’t like them before, it was just hard getting the right usage out of them. They’re a great way to layer up and play about with patterns. This Albam wool overshirt is rough and tough with an afropuff, easily subsituting as a lightweight jacket when spring comes. We gave it a feel up when we dropped by the store and can vouch for the quality of the piece. Going well with either denim or chinos this, like 90% of all Albam goods, will be a favourite for years to come. (Albam)
