After a bit of a wait we finally have a look at the forthcoming “Newspaper Album” version packaging for Radiohead’s “The King of Limbs” release. CR gets the exclusive from Stanley Donwood, who is clearly Radiohead’s go to designer (for like ever). “The artwork is designed in the guise of a Sunday newspaper, complete with plastic packaging printed with the album name and imagery. It contains two 10-inch clear vinyl records in a sleeve, a CD of the album, a perforated blotting-sheet artwork, and a newspaper containing art and texts by Donwood.” Love the blotters, Mr. Donwood.

Some of America’s best foodstuffs come from its fine state colleges. Of note is the beef jerk and American Kobe beef from Texas A&M. Several schools also produce superb ice cream. Washington State University is notable for two things – the cheese from its creamery and the packaging of said cheese. Obvious from the above image, cheeses like Cougar Gold come in a can. In a can? Yes.

Initially, this choice generated much speculation. Given the typical nature of canned cheese (think the steaming glop of orange at many of my local Philadelphia eateries), I was extraordinarily surprised by the quality. Washington State University has been canning cheese since the 1930s. Their belief stands that it is a great way to ensure that the cheese will not be contaminated. Cans contain 30 ounces of cheese at the cost of $18.

Having seen the new Grey Goose packaging last week, it is refreshing to see something a little more inventive from 1000 Acres. The design is handled by Arnell, the firm founded in 1979 by Peter Arnell. Aside from the above, Arnell has worked with Pepsi, Fila, and Ray-Ban (and many others). (via Daily Icon).
