In 1966, Arne Jacobson used turquoise as the chosen color palate for his Room 606 at the SAS House in Copenhagen. As Carolyn Kelly notes, his isn’t the only example of the serene and invigorating color in decorative arts history. Her brief rundown, published today by The Magazine Antiques, is worth a gander. Expect to see more turquoise in the coming year, Pantone has named it color of the year.

If you’ve got an eagle eye, you may have spotted these bags in our preview of Pantone’s store. These are billed as multi-purpose bags, but they’re essentially just laptop bags. The bags are canvas but be warned – it has a velcro enclosure. If you’re the type that hates the sound of velcro, avoid this bag at all costs. If not, then you can get this from Pedlars for a very reasonable £46.

PSFK reports on the latest in pop-up retail from Pantone. Following up on their successful outing with Uniqlo, Pantone has teamed with Gap on a Pop-Up shop adjacent to Gap’s flagship at 54th and 5th in NYC.  Pantone has also issued a t-shirt in Mimosa (14-0848), Pantone’s 2009 color of the year. “Pantone describes the color as having seven characteristics, optimistic, hopeful, reassuring, warm, cheerful, radiant, and versatile which they feel are the most relevant to the next twelve months.” Mimosa is not the only hue available through Gap, though the Mimosa color t-shirt will be exclusive to the pop-up shop, which is open through February 8th.

When the iMacs started coming out in multiple colorways, it was arguable the beginning of the modern customization era where you can have just about anything in any color you want. In fashion, multiple companies have released “color packs” of denim, t-shirts, and trainers. Life is about having what you want in the color you want.

Pantone, the og of color-matching, is releasing their Pantone Eyewear series that allows for consumes to customize the (you guessed it) color of the eyewear frames. The palette for Pantone eyewear has “endless possibilities” for interchanging rims and arms. Look for them soon in metal optical, semi rimless, sport metal and sport variations.
