paul smith wool jacket Paul Smith Wool Jacket

While most jackets this season are based off the college tutor look, there’s still some that draw their inspiration from the nautical look that was prevalent over the last few seasons. Take this Paul Smith jacket for instance, while it has the tutor-ly elbow patches, the sailor buttons and piping on the lapel give it more of a nautical edge. Get it from the Paul Smith store.

Paul Smith Navy Peacoat

paul smith navy coat Paul Smith Navy Peacoat
Given that Paul Smith’s clothing is described as ‘classic with a twist’, it’s not surprising that his pea coat will end up as the only navy pea coat to truly stand out from the crowd. While the standard Paul Smith quirks remain (such as the polka dot lining), what really makes this stand out is the colour and style of the buttons. Get it from Matches.

Paul Smith Canvas Holdall Bag

paul smith holdall Paul Smith Canvas Holdall Bag
Paul Smith pieces are well known for having a touch of the English eccentric about them and this holdall is no different. While it is a canvas bag, the print – several pictures of medal ribbons – allows it to not look like any other canvas bag you’ve seen. Add to the fact that it still has the leather handles that other Smith bags have – making it much nicer to hold – and you have a winner. Get it from the Paul Smith online store.

Paul Smith hosts the work of British artist Richard Woods in their Tokyo gallery, SPACE. “Woods is renowned for manipulating existing architectural spaces to create entirely new rooms. Using traditional wood block printmaking techniques on plywood and household gloss finishes, he covers spaces to create a new surrounding that is un-expected and entirely new.”  The “Wood Show” exhibit consists of wood block prints which follow a theme around “logos” which Mr. Woods first showcased in London back in 2000. Ten logo prints are available in editions of 25 for the SPACE Gallery exhibit. You can find them now online at Paul Smith. The “Wood Show” runs through November 30th at the Paul Smith SPACE Gallery in Tokyo.

Selectism - Paul Smith Opens First in Brooklyn

WWD reports that British designer, Paul Smith will be opening his first "freestanding" boutique in the the U.S. in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn later this month, which will sell "marked down items." "In doing so, Smith will be the first major designer to set up an outpost in the hipster-laden neighborhood known for its indie spirit, offbeat boutiques and vintage stores. The ‘fresh’ retail neighborhood appealed to  the company, a Paul Smith spokesman said Tuesday. It is also only one subway stop outside of Manhattan."

The Paul Smith Store will be located at 280 Grand Street.

Giorgio Armani for Chelsea FC

Selectism - Giorgio Armani for Chelsea FC

Yes, I know they lost in the penalty shoot-out today against a great Manchester United club, but the off field uniforms for the men in Blue (Chelsea if you have not determined that yet) comes from Giorgio Armani, an Italian. Vogue.com has a nice feature that also happens to mention that Manchester United were suited up off-field by Paul Smith.

Now, I love Paul Smith (maybe even more than Armani) but I really could not stomach the depression of having to write about the Red Devils. Congrats to them on the win, but lets give it up for Chelsea for doing something legendary after the departure of Mourinho. God bless and nice suits lads.

For more on the off field suit ups of both Chelsea and Man U, visit Vogue UK.

Tonite For Paul Smith Jeans Japan

tonite for paul smith japan collection - highsnobiety

Two completely different UK labels have gotten together this season – Tonite and Paul Smith.

This work was a special request from Paul Smith to design a capsule collection for their Japan stores. It will also be making it’s way to London with a very limited appearance at the P.S. Borough store. This is the very first preview. It is heading into stores now.

The name of this collection is “Robinstein Frankencrusoe” and as that suggests, it’s about a combination of the attributes of those two (Robinson Crusoe & Frankenstein) mythical figures. Frankenstein, alienated by a hostile, war-like society, escapes and takes to the Sea, pursuing the Sun and the promise of a better life. However, he is ship wrecked and washed ashore on a small tropical island, where he is discovered by it’s only resident, Robinson Crusoe. They form a friendship and an alliance and the clothes reflect their collective ideas about survival.

There are elements of surf-style and punk in the clothes, which are part of Fergadelic’s ongoing attempts to meld the Punk with the Hippy!

It’s a very interesting collaboration and especially an unexpected choice by Paul Smith. The most prominent UK designer once again shows his appreciation for underground talent.

The collection is now hitting stores in Japan and London. We expect the line to sell out rather quickly, so if you are interesting go to the stores in the next couple of days. Via Highsnobiety.

Check out the collection after the jump.
