fidelity sperry top side shoes peacoat fw2012 4 Sperry Top Sider, Fidelity Shoes and Pea Coat for Autumn/Winter 2012

Two Massachusetts brands come together for an interesting collaborative effort. Fidelity, known for their mil-spec coats works with the Sperry Top-sider collection for a three shoe/boot and pea coat – all using the Fidelity’s melton wool formula. As you can see the upper on the boat shoe, boot, and lace-up apply pea coat wool. The boot in the collection even gets a quick pea coat button hit on the upper. The pea coat comes branded with Fidelity and Sperry  Top-sider on the label. Available this Autumn 2012. As seen at PROJECT in Las Vegas.

Peacoats in red you say? The latest Golden Bear collaborative work for the Unionmade shop in San Francisco features a red “Bodega” peacoat that is certainly a strong buy for the gent that can pull of this look. Made from 80/20 virgin wool/nylon, the peacoat also features burnt corozo nut buttons, navy leather trim on the patches, and a build made to withstand more than a few seasons. Those not interested in the red may choose the navy variant with red leather trim.

Martin Margiela 14 – Contrast Collar Peacoat

Martin Margiela 14 - Contrast Collar Peacoat

Peacoat time! Margiela 14 comes through the games with a contrasting collar number that is sure to make you re-think the four other peacoats in your closet. A bit of beige corduroy does it right on the neckline and cuffs. The usual lapel and button closures are there keeping this peacoat true to form. Consider it… maybe you do need a Margiela peacoat in your life. Portugal’s Por Vocacao has them. They better be Benfica fans (I’m serious).

Buzz Rickson Peacoat

Buzz Rickson Peacoat

“You can’t go wrong with a peacoat,” the familiar refrain of the serial peacoat wearer. But those guys are right. There’s something about this naval classic that just works. They go with everything, they’re warm, smart, sturdy and when you button them up right to the top you just feel like everything’s going to be ok. The closer to the original USN model as possible the better though. No fancy epaulets and contrast buttons for us please. That’s why we turn to the ever reliable Buzz Rickson on this one. 36oz melton wool, star and anchor buttons and they’ve even lined the pockets with corduroy just like they did in days of old. Grab yours at Mr Mudd and Mr Gold.

Denham Longshore Pea Coat

 Denham Longshore Pea Coat

Encouraged by the success of Autumn/Winter 2010 Longshore Pea Coat, Denham include an updated version of the garment for their new Autumn/Winter collection, reaffirming its status as one of their key outerwear designs. The Pea Coat arrives in not one, but a trio of exciting fabrics; black painted canvas, (Fox Brothers & Co) Melton wool and robust Japanese denim. The coat’s overall design draws influence from vintage naval outerwear, yet deviates from the box-fit of archetypal works attire, parading a number of modernist revisions and a streamlined silhouette.

The various fabrications offer an intelligent spectrum of choice, each with its own unique selling points; the painted canvas exudes a sense of contemporary flair, the Melton wool airs of the side of tradition and the denim option subtly hints at Japan’s fixation with all things Americana, the later providing a great transitional piece from late summer through to autumn. -jr

E. Tautz Golden Peacoat

Selectism - e-tautz-golden-peacoat-01

We’ve gotta say, this current menswear revival is in real danger of resembling a pimps convention. Wide brimmed hats, big lapels and bright colours? Sounds pimpish to us. E. Tautz have just fell into stores and this coat is the showpiece of the season for them. You’re gonna need to have some chutzpah in a coat this bright – you might have to watch the Mack as inspiration. (Mr Porter)

This isn’t exactly seasonally appropriate. In fact it’s really bloody seasonally inappropriate. But it is one of the last NDG pieces we can find – the label shut down not too long ago – and it’s on sale. So you’ve been on the lookout for a peacoat then  this should be the one for you. We won’t even judge you for looking at peacoats during one of the hottest months of the year. (Nomad)

Selectism - melinda-gloss-peacoat

Here’s a solid looking piece, perfect for people who use the word solid to describe pieces of clothing. It’s not gonna set your wardrobe ablaze, but we’d challenge any man to look bad whilst wearing this. Actually we don’t, some guys are great at messing up good pieces. (Studio Homme)
