Edun's First Campaign - Photographed by Ryan McGinley

Back in 2005, Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, founded the EDUN line to bring awareness to trade in Africa and beyond. While no major campaigns have occurred under the Edun name, both Bono and Mrs. Hewson have been featured in Louis Vuitton campaigns with the mention of Edun and the African connections.  It all changes for Edun with their debut campaign photographed by Ryan McGinley. The new Edun advertisement campaign features six photographs each featuring one of six species of butterflies – all indigenous to Africa.

Impressive images from American photographer Jeff Rich. Concerned with issues around sustainability, the series, which won the 2010 Critical Mass Book Award, centers around The French Broad River in Tennessee. Formerly one of the most polluted river-ways in the U.S, a clean up programme saw it transformed in the 70s. However, latterly it’s slipped back into disrepair. Jeff documents the affects of this on the local ecology and community in these eerie and beautiful shots.  (huh).

gang portrait 011 Adam Amengual’s Gang Portraits

Incredible portraits of former gang members from New York photographer Adam Amengual. The series ‘Homies’ was made possible by the Homeboy Industries program that helps one-time gang members get back on the straight and narrow. Adam describes “A majority, if not everyone in this series has had a mug shot taken of them at one time in their past. I feel I have flipped that old image of them showing them as proud and iconic. It is a visual metaphor for the transformation they are bringing to their own lives.” More over at Flavorpill.

hedi new work 04 Hedi Slimane New Work Photography

Hedi Slimane continues to show off with a camera in his trademark black and white moody fashion. New work up on his visual diary is the usual mix of serious posing and dilapidated buildings and while it can all get a bit self-conscious it’s hard to argue with his eye for a great shot.

Guido Castagnoli 011 Guido Castagnolis Provincial Japan Series

Phaidon introduce us to Guido Castagnoli’s Provincial Japan series. Shot in the Shizuoka district, a collection of seemingly uninhabited landscapes and multicoloured Americana with more than a touch of the surreal. “Shooting his first photographs on an old family Leica camera, Castagnoli left his position as an art director at an advertising agency in Milan to pursue photography full time in 2001. His interest in advertising and signage has not decreased, as is evident by the focus of his photographs.”
