Together at last! Italian tire-maker Pirelli and snowboard juggernaut Burton! Alright, that was some hyperbole. We haven’t really been waiting for this, but it isn’t that big of a stretch. After all, along with making clothes and bonerific calendars, Pirelli makes shoes—snowboard boots are a natural enough extension of that. Plus, Pirelli tires go on cars. Cars go fast and so do snowboards, when used properly.

Enough jabbering: The collaboration in question brings us the 2013 Ion Boots and an LE snowboard and binding. The boot, which will be available next fall at authorized Burton dealers worldwide, is the locus and sports the superior traction afforded by a Pirelli outsole. The Ion is a classic boot and should only stand to benefit from the exclusive rubber compound Pirelli formulated for it. The snowboard and bindings will only be available at the Pirelli Corso Venezia in Milan. Did we mention we like the blackness?

The Pirelli PZero fashion line, a jump off from the multi-faceted Pirelli company in Italy, has been on the market for some years, but 2012 looks to be a special time for the maker. Consider the new year a re-invention of sorts for the Pirelli PZero, a solution in some respects, that brings new life to the brand.

The Pirelli PZero waterproof raincoat is at the center of the brand’s re-ignition. One of the first garments produced by the Pirelli company back more than six decades, the new take on the Prince of Wales coat adds proofing treatments and modern fabrics that do indeed bring the jacket into a current look.  A new bomber jacket produced from technical flannel with taped seams is another key look in the new Pirelli PZero collection.  We’ll continue to monitor changes with the collection… view more in our gallery.

Vanity Fair Italy (and other Italian press outlets) worked the exclusive first look inside the 2012 Pirelli Calendar. Of course, the content is the beauty of the female form. Mario Sorrenti photographs this year’s models including Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich and Saskia de Brauw (above). Past photographers of the Pirelli calendar include Terry Richardson and Karl Lagerfeld. “During the Karl Lagerfeld Pirelli calendar launch in Moscow, Renato Montagner, Creative Director of Pirelli P Zero, commissioned artist Scott Campbell to create two signature projects. To engrave a Pirelli tire and to design a special edition P Zero bike jacket by Dainese. In the summer of 2011, Campbell began working on these pieces in his Brooklyn studio in New York.”

The iconic Italian brand Pirelli opened its first flagship store, Pirelli Corso Venezia, this week in Milan. The two floor, 1,500 square meters location designed by Renato Montagner, brings together all the facets of the “P. Lunga” brand (the long P logo synonymous with Pirelli) under one roof. According to Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera, “fashion and industry go hand in hand and the new Pirelli space aims to underline this link and renew it.” The PZero collection that ranges from footwear and clothing to skateboards and bikes; F1, yachting, football and vintage cars showcases the different aspects of the company’s diverse history.
