One of the take homes from this past Pitti was a strong periodical from the minds behind Rolling Stone Italia.

Specially produced for the Italian reader during Pitti and Milan Fashion Week, Rolling Stone Italia’s Rock & Roll Style, Volume 1 is a well thought out men’s fashion and lifestyle publication that is of very high production. Photography and topics inside the publication remain current and tend to the needs of the Italian gentleman reading them. Inside readers will find everything from fashion tips, reviews, to detailed schematics of Brooks Saddles and Victorinox knives.

Props should be given to the staff at Rolling Stone Italy for putting this issue together. Clearly they worked overtime in bringing this special project to the market. It looks fantastic as you can see from my well read copy above.

If Rock and Roll Style featured split Italian/English text, it would give many of the men’s magazines on the market today a serious run for their money. Did we mention that it is a free publication?

ts(s) is one of the more accessible Japanese lines on the market. They distribute throughout Europe as well as in North America. For those new to the line, try to get your hands on some of the garments as they come down to touch and fit (don’t they all). Wools work well throughout the collection including on their contrasting wingtip boots, which will work for many. The yarn work in the wool jackets are choice as well.

Gents, Monitaly is back for AW2012. Their strength is in outwear jackets, coats and all variants thereof. Wools are strong in patterns, stripes, and south west influence. Trousers and pants offer an array of options as well – expect heavy wools on garments made to last more than a few seasons.

New soft leathers and heavy canvas are in order from the U.K.’s Ally Capellino for Autumn/Winter 2012. The soft leather satchels in blue are choice as are the chocolate waxed cotton looks. Be sure to also discover the woven shoe lace work on pulls found on the canvas Don bag. Overall, for those looking for a strong alternative to their local offerings, consider Ally Capellino.

Look who’s in a good mood this season! Mark McNairy delivers his Autumn Winter 2012 collection with a “smile.” The new collection ditches the “Fuck Off” sole for the smiley face. We’re hoping next season we get the “acid house” smiley soon. Fans of McNairy will enjoy new mixed leather wingtip boots, blue commando soles, and more. Dig in.

Italy’s Car Shoe has received love from us a handful of times. Pitti Uomo offered us the opportunity to browse their side selection of footwear for both proper driving experiences but also the normal day to day walk about. Where to begin is difficult which is why we highly recommend spending some time in our gallery looking for your favorite.

Car Shoe should be around domestically Stateside. Bad boy status on this brand. The original.

Into its second season is the excellent Nigel Cabourn collection for Eddie Bauer. We’re told that the collection will be made available through select shops and there is much to be excited about. The archive digging Cabourn pulled out a good deal of fresh gems for the second collection. Specialty fabrics developed in the 1970’s by Woolrich for Eddie Bauer get a second life. British millerain sites against 1970’s Bauer textiles in various forms. The Trapper jackets are standouts looks.

One note for those that still wonder on the price point of the collection: consider that the quilted parkas are hand stuffed and require more than five hours of work for each garment to produce. Cabourn refuses to compromise and we’re happy to see that Eddie Bauer agrees.

One of the better bag makes we ran into at Pitti Uomo this week was Italy’s Silent People. The concept is a simple: take vintage jackets, preferably military, heritage outerwear, as well as leather bombers, and re-formulate them into satchels and bags. Designers and vintage collectors, Franco Armilla and Filippo Biancoli, enjoy the idea of the sharing history through the new forms.

The gallery (below) is filled with the details of their Silent People work. You’ll find a rucksack formed from an old Barbour jacket; a shearling lined farm coat converted into a satchel, as well as a U.S. pilot’s bomber jacket converted into an attache. We see vintage Woolrich in there as well. The designed are well considered and stay sustainable in all regards. At one point, Silent People was available in the U.S.A. We’re not clear on stocklists outside of Europe and Japan at this time.

Italian outerwear maker, Esemplare is still young in seasons, but continues to experiment in positive ways with mixed knits against technical fabrics in this wide range of outerwear. Heavy knit shells are compliments on the interiors with down filled liners that make them extraordinarily warm on wear. The silhouettes on the Esemplare garments follow the guidance of their Italian roots, and offer a vast array of options for the buyers looking for unique outerwear jacket, overcoat, or parka to mix into their wardrobe.
