This one showed its face on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2012 in different form, now available for purchase by the general rucksack wearing public in an interesting selection of fabric. British designer J.W Anderson takes Porter a little bit lo-fi with this straw body backpack. Nylon and mesh fabric, it features a vertical main zip, thick back padding, four external pockets and plenty of straps. An inventive take on a Porter classic, find it here.

A great item from Porter and Beams with this B Yoshida Rigby backpack. A familiar shape (and colourway, remember this?) returns in sturdy brown canvas with tan leather trim featuring front pocket, back pocket, inside pocket – basically lots of places to store/lose your possessions. Porter heads over to Hollywood Ranch Market for an all Japan collaboration. A collection including backpacks and courier bags, this simple tote is a favourite. A large outside zip pocket, this is designed to fold up into a carry pouch, ready for action when you’re after a little extra storage. Porter goods always looks smart in their favoured black, however the orange and blue versions are definitely worth a look – the awesome Hollywood Ranch Market continuing to do its thing quietly.

Margaret Howell and Yoshida & Co. of Porter/Headporter fame have collaborated on this simple rucksack for Spring/Summer 2012. Water repellent, 100% cotton canvas, an unstructured pack with a flap front, expandable pocket and plenty of that relaxed Howell feel. The ACE Hotel Dopp Kit from Japan’s Porter may give the Filson travel dopp bag a run for its money. The sturdy canvas bag features three internal card pockets, a full sized zipper and room to stuff in the powders, shavers and toothpaste for your next jaunt through the minefields of travel. Not more than a half decade past, the swinging pendulum of the Head Porter camera pouch on a carabiner was the symbol of Japanese “street fashion” moving into the west. Argue it as you may, but the very few (initiall) who could get their hands on the pouch coveted them. The price was nominal compared to the Porter full-sized bag offerings. Like the GUCCI belt, it was one of those well priced items affordable by all.

Today, things are a bit different. The expansion of Porter pouch love moves into new territory. Take the Baxter of California’s “Grooming Implements” kit, which features a custom Porter pouch shell and three grooming tools: a  nail file, tweezers, and nail clipper – all marked with the “Baxter of California” name. $140 makes this an excellent gift option for the person in your life who needs some upkeep help.

Want a nice coin case-y type wallet but don’t want a CDG one? Look no further. This Head Porter wallet is slightly more expensive than the CDG equivalent but it’s still affordable and, most importantly, you’re less likely to run into someone with the same wallet as you. Months after the tsunami disaster in Japan, the clean-up and relief effort is still on-going. Help is still needed in the region and it continues to rebuild and try to save the area from further human and environmental consequences. Despite their recent penchant for overdoing it on the collaboration front, we still like a bit of Porter. It’s interesting to see what the company do next, especially as for so long their bags we’re used to silently say ’see, I have been to Japan, how else could I get this bag?’ Then again, it might just get like Supreme, gaining new fans whilst turning the old fans into the grumps going on about how they were into it before it got hyped.
