leskimo fall winter 2012 outerwear 16 Leskimo (Italy) Outerwear Autumn/Winter 2012 Preview

And you thought we were done from the men’s markets?

Here’s a look at the work of Italian designer, Franco Verzi. His outwear collection, L’eskimo offers a premium set of styles and cuts that deliver that modern Italo-steez through anoraks, overcoats, and some new ideas around quilted vests that take no shape from the past. Worth a dig through in the gallery… you’ll find their current collection through many of our retail partners.

Bedwin & The Heartbreakers Quilted Jacket

Here’s a quilted jacket the Wu would approve of. The quilted jacket is nearing the end of it’s trend lifespan (in the UK at least, it’s just about starting in the US) which means designers are going a bit crazy with the patterns. While there’s obviously a lot that can go wrong with this turn, there’s a lot that can work as well. Like this Bedwin jacket for instance. We can dig it. Can you? (Garbstore)

Pendleton for Opening Ceremony Quilted Jacket

The Pendleton/OC collab keeps on rolling with this quilted patchwork jacket. The first thing that stands out to us (aside from the $705 pricetag) is that it’s a patchwork patterns that’s relatively easy on the eye – losing some of the marmite-yness that most patchwork patterns have. You can also zip off the arms to make this  into a gilet, which is nice. (Opening Ceremony)

Dunhill Quilted Jacket

Selectism - dunhill-quilted-jacket-01

Despite all this global village talk, trends still take at least a year to cross the pond. Quilted jackets are a prime example of this. While you can’t get away with wearing Barbour’s in the UK anymore (at least not in a certain hipsterish end of East London) a piece like this would still pass the style test. Just don’t tell any Rough Trade dwellers about this – we don’t need this going the way of the boat shoe. (Opening Ceremony)

Oliver Spencer Signalman’s Jacket

We hate being all fashion and recommending you autumn pieces in August, but here is a handsome piece that’s worth a look right now. Quilted jackets have (unfortunately) become the new version of Kwame’s polka dots in London, but this has enough twists to make it worthwhile. Between the shawl collar and the crushed leather buttons, we can ensure that you’ll be avoiding any shoreditchian-hipster comparisons if you wear this piece. (Oi Polloi)

Joe Casely-Hayford for John Lewis Quilted Leather Jacket

19 March 2010, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | 4 comments »

selectism - casely-hayford-for-john-lewis-quilted-leather-jacket-01

Who’d have thought that John Lewis would be making an appearance on these pages? Not us, for one. The most middle class department store in the world (and that’s verified fact) surprised everyone when they announced their collaboration with Joe Casely-Hayford.

Now that the virtual dust is settling, here’s one piece that we’re especially fond of. Whilst quilted jackets are dangerously close to being played out (in the UK, at least) there’s always room for something that’s this handsome. You can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll look ten times better than the folks who bought cheap versions from TK Maxx. (John Lewis)

Opening Ceremony Quilted Jacket

selectism - opening-ceremony-quilted-jacket-01

Another day, another sale pick – that’s just how we roll. There’s a whole lotta’ badly made quilted jackets doing the rounds, but there’s always space for a well made one in our wardrobe. This Opening Ceremony jacket is lightweight, which immediately rules it out as a winter coat panic buy, but don’t let that put you off. It’d work great as a layering alternative to the scarf-jumper-coat combo everyone wears and would look great with some tan cords. Just don’t wear it with black jeans, the jewel thief look isn’t a good one. (End)

Song remains the same, take a leap to see detailed images.

Edifice Quilted Jacket

At this point, we’re sure every Edifice design meeting ends with ‘have you tried adding crushed leather buttons?’ No hate from us though, if you’ve found a winning formula – there’s no need to change it. Just call it ‘the crushed leather effect’ – or TCLE for short. This time TCLE ™ does wonders to the quilted jacket; We’ve seen a fair few about town this season, but this one is our favourite. As usual, be prepared to get your proxy on. (Style Cruise)

Ralph Lauren Kempton Quilted Jackets

Here’s another great quilted jacket – this time it’s from Ralph Lauren. And, in case you were wondering, this is from his Polo range. There’s always a transitional phase when it comes to new (or not so new) styles coming into fashion. The main one is just getting used to something visually – that’s one of the reasons why most people can’t cope with wide leg trousers. Now everyone’s visually adjusted to quilted jackets we can start picking out ones with quirky details. The detail on this is the gunpatch, which breaks up the monotony quite nicely. (Ralph Lauren)

Edifice Weatherwear Collection

23 October 2009, 17.30 | Posted in Fashion | 3 comments »

selectism - edifice-weatherwear-collection-01

Here’s another teasing collection from Japan. This time Edifice have teamed up with Mackintosh and Lavenham Scotland’s Traditional Weatherwear to create their new quilted jacket ‘weatherwear’ collection. Quilted jackets have sprung back into popularity, with the hipster crowd being the first to hop on the bandwagon. Edifice have made a series of quilted jackets in nylon and tweed (pictured above) and, as usual, it’s exclusive to Japan. It’s not online yet either, so you’ll have to have a proxy who’s on his game to get you one of these. Or you could ask Jeff (our managing editor) who’s over in Tokyo right now.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the leap.
