The Swedes know their raingear: the country has been a hothouse of rain centric production over the years. Another addition to the compact range at Utile. On offer this time is a smart and simple raincoat. The Sion is made of a thick cavalry tweed, Made in England and currently available in olive. We like the hidden front buttons which give the coat a streamlined front and removes any unnecessary fuss.

Highsnob reports on the Burberry Prorsum Transparent Raincoat coming soon. “A rather interesting piece comes from the soon to be released Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. The Transparent Rain Coat is to be worn on top of your regular coat during the rainy days of the fall season. The resulting look is quite futuristic and we are not really sure what to make of it yet, but it is certainly interesting.”

Los Angeles based contemporary men’s brand, B:SCOTT, debuts their Fall 2010 collection, with the newly re-designed “Mock hoody” raincoat. The jacket is “fully lined and water resistant,” and is made of 60% cotton and 40% woven nylon. The shell is offered only in black and it is available at B:SCOTT.

We’ve featured Stutterheim before, but this new colour deserves a second look. They’re handmade from start to finish, will keep out the rain – especially useful if you get caught out like we did today – and, most importantly, will look damn good on. They’re available from their site.

We visited Martin Clothing in 2009 and they released the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. The “Short Rain Trench” encapsulates “solid construction combined with extremely light weight fabric.” The “mesh ports located on the shoulder joints provide unimpeded ventilation while the high collar diverts drafts from your neck. On top the technical lightweight fabric, the “front bill of the hood” is removable. With their slim-silhouettes and streamline fabrics, “Martin Clothing” delivers another great piece for urban terrain. The jacket is available at MartinClothing. (gb)

Choosing great pieces from a Margaret Howell collection isn’t the hardest of tasks, but here’s one we’ve especially taken to. We’ve been obsessed with raincoats for the last few months but we haven’t started getting the snarky comments we get on Springcourts and desert boots*, so we’re gonna keep on trucking. We don’t really have much to say about this piece really – it looks good, it’ll keep your head dry, what more would you want from a coat? (South Willard)

Patrik Ervell relaunched his e-commerce site the other day and here’s our pick of the bunch. It shouldn’t be a surprise to SL reader that it’s the most expensive piece on the site (what can we say? we’ve got champagne tastes) but it was the stand out piece from the catwalk show. If you’ve got the coins – and can deal with up to 3 weeks of waiting for it to be made for you – then it’s worth a go. (Patrik Ervell)

Here’s a second look at the Brooks Oxford Roll-up Raincoat we covered back at BBB this Summer – they call it a rain cape. “The cape is produced in Manchester and is a combination  of waxed cotton with Dashing Tweed accents.  Dashing Tweed is a reflective tweed designed in Savile Row and produced in Scotland.” Nicely done and beautiful.
