Using the iconic hat and boot combination for artistic affect rather than fashion suggestion (we hope), an interesting story that makes much use of light, shadow and projection backdrops. With clothing from the likes of Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Margaret Howell, Comme des Garcons and a strong American showing from Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hifiger and Calvin Klein – one to wave you Stars n’ Stripes at. As we still sit firmly in Spring, or for some of us a season more like Winter-lite, it seems appropriate to shine a light on the sock, still keeping us warm around the ankle area while we await better days. Everybody has a drawer full of these things, many of which have seen better days, but sometimes you have to get fancy on your sock situation. Maybe you’ve bought some trousers just that half inch to short, perhaps you’re a roller or a cuffer, maybe you sit down a lot – a reclining leg exposer. Whatever way, if you’re socks are visible to the world make it count. These six are loud, proud and mean business, let your feet do the talking.

The Mr Handsome of Japanese football, Hidetoshi Nakata, now retired, stars in this Editorial over at Mr Porter. Featuring the likes of Brioni, Beams +, Lanvin and Ralph Lauren, the 32 year old is looking pretty slick. Having spent he’s time after football travelling the world (over 100 countries he claims) Mr Nakata is looking to produce his own brand of that king of brews, Sake. “It would be cool to have one of the best sakes in the world. It’s like having a Château Mouton or Gaja – if you are the owner of that kind of wine. You go to good restaurants in London, in New York, and then you can order your own sake. That’s cool.”

For those who enjoy the closing ceremonies of the Olympic games, we bring a sneak preview of the garbs Team U.S.A. will be strolling into the big arean wearing. Ralph Lauren is the official outfitter of the 2012 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic team for the London Olympics. The team will be strolling in wearing an all white affair. Two polos also appeared this afternoon at the Ralph Lauren launch in Times Square. Some touches of classic roaring style in there.

Maritime and nautical hits on washed fabrics are highlighted in ivory and indigo. Check for bleached fleece as well. “Graphic tees and surf-inspired prints are softly washed to evoke sun-faded vintage cloths. Baja-inspired and bandana-print accessories add an exotic touch to an effortlessly relaxed collection.” Hell, the inspiration is wide and far for the collection; a candidate for those wearers who prefer to choose their looks based on their likes, rather than what others describe them as. Purists and those in favor of a more classic approach may shy away from Rugby’s Dart Tie Bar. I think I even may, but in truth we’re the boring ones; the fundamentalists that take it all too literally. What I would not shy away from would be a dart tie bar in gun metal. I’m serious too. Nevertheless, this is a fine example of how to add a dash of classic tie bar without trying to be like that guy. $39.50 (no round-up?)

If the world really is going to end this year then you don’t want to spend your last few swimming months looking like a mug in badly chosen shorts.
