Following up on our looks from the forthcoming Red Wing Heritage collection for Autumn/Winter 2012, we bring you this video walk through that showcases many of the looks including the forthcoming collaborative boot with Nigel Cabourn. As seen at Bread & Butter Berlin this past January 2012.

There’s something a pinch off-putting about this collaboration between venerable Japanese supply house SHIPS and stalwart American bootmaker Red Wing that we can’t quite put our big toe on. That gross visual aside, what we’re seeing and not clicking with here might be the black and beige juxtaposition. Though those colors can easily work together, here they seem primed for pairing with something in an acid-washed denim—ready to go to work in a ’90s boy band, perhaps. Given the Supersole’s pedigree, durability is a given, and the silhouette is definitely à la mode. Maybe the colorway will grow on us, but that is of little consequence if it’s already grown on you.

Red Wing showcases the collection that will land on European shores for Autumn/Winter 2012 here in Berlin. Fans of the heritage line will be impressed with the new boots, which includes a dual-pack for the Nigel Cabourn collection (one pair shown above). I believe in the United States and Japan the offering for Autumn/Winter 2012 will be even wide. We’ll monitor for you and return with more information. More at Red Wing Heritage.

Consider this a preview of our forthcoming full look at the Red Wing Autumn Winter 2012 collection. This six-inch Brogue Ranger boot, in two colorways, are sharp choices for the those looking to refresh in 2012. Should deliver in stores around August.

“The 6-inch full brogue was first designed as a country walking shoe specifically created for use when crossing wetlands and bogs. For the people in Red Wing and the surrounding areas, heading outside often meant trekking through the Minnesota wetlands and river basins. People needed a boot that could withstand constant exposure to water and a boot that, when wet, would not break down and hurt a person’s feet.”

When we look at the accessibility of the products that get shine on Selectism, we may occasionally forget that while everyone can see these goods online, holding them in very hand may not be that easy to some. The Original Store show us their lookbook or ‘Style Guide’ as they’ve named it. Shot by Ryan Johnson and styled by Glenn Kitson, UK pro-skate legend Garry ‘Woody’ Woodward takes to the streets of Manchester to showcase labels such as Patagonia, Buzz Rickson, Tellason, Reigning Champ, Patagonia, Heritage Research, Carhartt and Red Wing. Their first venture into lookbook territory, the focus is on keeping it wearable and gimmick free.

From Red Wing Journal comes this great video short on the carving of the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills, in Custer County, South Dakota. “Crazy Horse Monument – Five Against the Mountain” looks at the dedication and engineering feat of the men and women working on the site. Today, the Crazy Horse monument site remains under construction as it has been since 1948. When completed, it will be the world’s largest sculpture. A true look at a man’s art and craft. A nice feature from the Red Wing company.

Red Wing continues to embrace and focus on that white collar market that is looking to outfit their rugged days with the very best Red Wing has to offer. Here’s a fresh factory tour from Red Wing angled by the Dutch Masters at Tenue de Nimes. Reason? “To discover first hand the deepest secrets  of the American, old school  production process. The factory is home to a hospitable team of employees, most of whom have worked at the Red Wing factory for nearly 30 years. All the craftsmen and -women ply  their own particular craft on the old machinery. Some of the Red Wing machines  were  patented in 1893 and have,  to this very day, not been replaced.”

Stetson and Red Wing compliment one another in that American way. While the Stetson collection looks to have grown into fashion circles through the EU markets, they are seeing a strong return into the U.S.A. on the heels of the “return home” movement that looks to be sticking. Using Red Wing leathers, Stetson has developed four styles for the boot maker which include two eight-panel newsboy style caps, a trapper in sporting plaid, as well as an all leather ala Brando-style.
