refinery 29 cardigan roundup R29 | Cardigans for Him Roundup

Our good friends at R29 round up the best in gentleman’s cardigans in their latest gift guide. “At some point a few year’s ago, the cardigan crossed-over from preppy-Nerd staple to being utterly practical and cool. For guys, this is doubly true. Versatile and generally affordable, a cardigan is that one piece that makes a T-shirt or favorite button-down that much nicer.”

R29 comes in this week with a nice selection of men’s headgear for the Fall. We love the coverage given to brands like L.L. Bean and Dunderdon – two of our cold season favorites. “‘No question, a guy in the right hat is, well, a beautiful thing. While most men find it harrowing (to say the least) to identify the right accessories to punctuate their style, a good-looking hat can do wonders for finding discovering a dude’s inner gentleman. And with the cool winds blowing, there’s no better time to dabble in some down-and-dirty lid sampling.”

r29 winter coats under 300 dollars R29 | 20 Mens Coats Under $300

R29 just released their guide to 20 men’s coats for under 300$US. That is indeed a fair price for outerwear which is about the line line of protection anyone has from the “big chill.” As they put it, “Imagine saving all those Benjamins while you’re bedecked in an American classic, deflecting the downfall of stocks in an inviting rain jacket, or confronting the financial market head on in a military inspired top coat? And with the ebb and flow of the weather—and stocks—you’ll be ready for just about any forecast headed your way.”

The selection of 20 coats ranges from the goodness of Woolrich right down to the new bloods like Shades of Greige. See the full range of coats under 300$US at Refinery 29.

Selectism - Shades of Greige Spring/Summer 2009

R29 previews more looks from the Spring/Summer 2009 Collection from Shades of Greige. As Mr. Berlinger puts it, "After previewing Micah Cohen’s Shades of Greige menswear collection for S/S 2009, there were a plethora of terrific outerwear options that make us feel so over winter before it even begins. Some of our favorites are the plaid one button blazer with a slim lapel, the red funnel neck windbreaker (perfect for a day on the yacht!), and the navy military-inspired jacket."

More views from the Shade of Greige Spring/Summer 2009 Collection after the jump.

Selectism - R29 | 24 Bags for Him to Have and Hold

Evangelizing the man bag is not a job easily done. The great thing is that most of the bags available or fashioned for males today are pretty damn clean in look and should not lead to raised brows. Refinery 29 has just published a great guide to 24 of the season’s best. The gamut is covered – Engineered Garments, Diet Butcher, Rag & Bone, and many others.

Selectism - NYFW - Obedient Sons

R29 reports on the runways shows from Obedient Sons New York Fashion Week show. "Coming off of their oversized-hipster plaid line last fall, the spring/summer collection worked outside of prevailing trends, concentrating on washed-out beachwear shot through with pink and mint stitching. This was a far more mature and mainstream Obedient than we’ve seen before…"

Selectism - 8 Frames With See-Through Style

Over on the R29 Pipeline, Piera Gelardi profiles some eight sets of clear shades that are sure to highlight your attire under the sun. "All of a sudden we’re spotting see-through specs everywhere. Coincidence? Perhaps—but unlikely. What caught our attention this time wasn’t just crystal-clear style, but translucent shades of cornflower blue, lavender, yellow, and amber."

Selectism - Conference of Birds Menswear

"Helmed by British stylist-cum-designer Andrew Holden, the young menswear label Conference of Birds represents a clever marriage of unlikely mates. A chic sartorial bricolage joining the hard-edged quality of American workwear with the polish of British tailoring, Holden’s garments also recall rugged hunting pieces as much as they do trim cosmopolitan uniforms." 15 Spring Bags for Guys

Selectism - 15 Spring Bags for Guys

Our good friends over at R29 have published a nice Spring guide to mens bags. "It used to be that a man’s bare hands would suffice to ensure his day-to-day success. Whether wrestling up dinner or fashioning WMD thwarting devices (ie: paperclips and ABC gum), men for the most part have been expected to rely on brawn and brains to sustain themselves. But that was well before the advent of the "murse" threatened to soften those hard-earned calluses."

Bureau Line on R29

Selectism - Bureau Line on R29.

R29 has a preview of new menswear line, Bureau. “For designer Cory Gomberg, describing his clothes as “effortless” is the ultimate praise. His nascent menswear line, Bureau, is made up of beautifully crafted basics, each piece as functional as it is refined. This is no accident, as Gomberg has long been inspired by a time when mass production in clothing was still a ways off: His first label, the now-defunct Greige, gave a nod to 1930s migrant farm workers, and Bureau delivers similar references to eras past.”
