Lauren Cochrane over at Ponystep grabbed an interview with goth-centrist designer Rick Owen. It comes as no surprise that the interview gives us a new view of the man and his forthcoming spring/summer 2009 collection. “Owens’ vision, as he himself admits, is tied up with the macabre, the dark, the shadowy and, of course, the goth. With his spring/summer collection, entitled ‘Dust’, he uses ‘minimalist goth’ as buzz words for pale girls dressed in luxe black leather basques, artfully flared coats and boots covered with what look like shiny black binbags.” (via fashionindie)

Rick Owens kills it even when subdued. This Leather Funnel Jacket is a great example of an Owen’s piece that I’d love to wear all Autumn. "This beautifully constructed jacket is fitted to the body with an oversized collar that can be worn up or folded down. This piece has a silver metal zip fastening, two jet waist pockets in line with the seams, two small zip pockets positioned in the front shoulder seams and a large square pocket on the back with Velcro to fasten." High tops with extended tongues have been creeping into popularity for a while now and it seems a number of designers are getting in on it. These Rick Owens hi-tops features the now pre-requisite extended tongue in addition to other quirky details like the zipper and a nike-like logo. The slim fits and crinkled fabrics work well with a variety of dying and bleaching techniques used across the line. Rick Owens move to Paris form California four years ago has not changed his design credo’s. As mentioned in his bio for New York Magazine, “My look is about an appreciation of teenage angst without actually having the angst.”

With his Spring/Summer 2008 menswear collection Owens remains monotoned (occasionally duo) while holding to minimal color palette and “dramatic construction.” (photos via frillr).
