"R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection" Book

Fans of music and the underground era genius of Robert Crumb may well love the new R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection Book book that brings together more than 450 four-color illustrations of the man’s album cover artwork. It started with his first cover in 1968 for Janis Joplin’s “Cheap Thrills” album (no doubt familiar to you). Crumb then went on to interpret art covers for artists new and old with a particular focus on the blues. “So remarkable were Crumb’s artistic interpretations of these old 78 rpm singles that the art itself proved influential in their rediscovery in the 1960s and 1970s. Including such classics as Truckin’ My Blues Away, Harmonica Blues, and Please Warm My Weiner, Crumb’s opus also features more recent covers done for CDs.”

R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection R. Crumb: The Complete Record Cover Collection Book will be a perfect gift for music loves as well as those interested in Crumb’s incredible contribution to art.

It’s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving here in SOHO and the Selectism staff is taking it easy. Though the busiest shopping day of the year is around the corner, the hood is slow at the moment. We took the opportunity to visit the agnès b store right across the street from our office and discovered the latest issue of Point d’ironie, the in-house magazine from the legendary fashion house.

Issue #45 of Point D’ironie features one of our favorite comic artists, Robert Crumb. Mr. Crumb titles the work, “Flesh and Blood Comics” focuses on the impulsive world we live in. Printed in large format, Point d’ironie is published six times per year and distributed through agnès b stores worldwide. It is half magazine and half poster form. An artist is commissioned per issue and is given free reign to do whatever they please with eight pages. Past artists include Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, Louise Bougeois, and many many others.

Robert Crumb’s Sex Obsessions

Robert Crumb's Sex Obsessions

We can never get enough of Coffee Table books. Nothing beats an interesting oversized, well designed book. Unfortunately since Taschen is around, one could buy several a week, it’s hard to keep up.

The latest interesting release is “Sex Obsessions” by artist Robert Crumb. The artist is probably the worlds most famous underground cartoonist and has released impressive works over the years.

Now Crumb has selected his most intimately revealing comic strips and single page drawings to create a 258 page encyclopedic trip through his sexual psyche. All images were created between 1980 and 2006, and all strips are hand-colored for a lush vibrancy never seen in his comic books. In total the book features 14 complete stories, including My Troubles With Women, If I Were a King, A Bitchin’ Bod, and How To Have Fun With a Strong Girl, as well as 60 single page drawings.

This signed limited edition of 1,000 copies is a work of art in itself, with every part of the book—front and back covers, spine, and introductory pages—created for this project by Robert Crumb. Each book also comes with an art print selected by Mr. Crumb.

Taschen is increasing their prices on some of their limited edition releases, so if you got some spare money, you better get yourself a copy this week!

After the jump some more page spreads.
