Rochambeau Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

rochambeau 1 Rochambeau Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection
A little bit Logan’s Run, and a little bit Johnny Winter, the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection from Rochambeau poses all sorts of interesting theories on how men have dressed in the past and how they might dress in the present to appear as if they got dressed in the future as imagined in the past.

Some pretty spectacular looks bubble to the surface. Not all of them are particularly pragmatic, but that’s clearly not the point. In fact, a good many of the items presented here fall neatly under the term Black Metal Serfwear that we coined a few weeks ago. Bottom line: there are definitely some pieces that could make their way comfortably into a well-versed closet and some others that would blow some damn minds at parties. Get on it.

Balam Acab soundtracks Hugh Lippe’s “Paralymbic” film, available now to view. Shot in Manhattan for New York’s Rochambeau, the film expands the normal brand “fashion film” into new territories that go well beyond the concepts behind the garments and “into the reel.”

We bring you this preview of “PARALYMBIC” A Film By Hugh Lippe For Rochambeau. Look for the full film coming September 14.

Some thoughts from Hugh Lippe on the film: “The idea for a ‘fashion film’ had been kicked around in numerous forms. Unfortunately the ever repeating aesthetic of these left everyone in a negative way.  Often these shorts are shot on the sideline or in between during still photo productions, plastered with stacks of effects exhibiting models posing in and out of their own layered reflection while their hair blows in reverse.  It was these particular creations that inspired the desire to take it out and into the real.  It was a run for the opposite end of the spectrum, a desire to stretch out the idea of a moving portrait, create a pulse, tap into the chaos of the city that so many claim connection.”

Rochambeau Autumn/Winter 2011

There is no doiubt that the (capsule) Paris floor was flooded with heritage and workwear at a level unseen in years past. Something to think about, really. But on that floor, hidden between classic brogues, and Japanese denim was New York’s Rochambeau who continue to re-imagine and move menswear in a direction which does not hark on the past – a good thing for the continued progression in menswear.

Selectism - Rochambeau Black Wrap Jersey T-Shirt

A  t-shirt with a structured neck wrap may not be the newest of ideas but when done well, it sets you apart from the Owens boys. NYC’s Rochambeau offers this garment for review. Since it made from 100% rayon, it is advisable to wear it [un]appropriately depending on your environment. “Super soft black sheer short sleeve tee with extra long attached scarf at sleeve. Unhemmed finishing.” 198$US puts this in your hands. OAK has it.

Selectism - Rochambeau Spring 2010 Lookbook

NYC’s Rochambeau label easily won the crown for life size lookbooks. Well, not exactly lifesize, but their Spring 2010 lookbook, which is meticulously printed on Tyvek paper (with post-treatment), and finished with sisal fiber cover, looks like a carpet when rolled up for travel but clearly holds looks at the lines future.  Seen at (capsule).

Rochambeau Autumn/Winter 2009

rochambeau fall 2009 front Rochambeau Autumn/Winter 2009

New York’s Rochambeau does not mind turning to the ancient bodies of the crabs and lobsters and prawns in envisioning their Autumn 2009 collection. Their “second season studies the intricate dialogue between defense and self. In observation of this concept the collection draws inspiration from sundry decapod crustaceans… The exoskeleton, which is found in both species, has been referenced in the Fall 09 collection,  Fall and Winter requires shielding and protection from the elements and utilizing materials such as tropical wool, cotton plaid, and hand brushed flannel…”
