Edun's First Campaign - Photographed by Ryan McGinley

Back in 2005, Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, founded the EDUN line to bring awareness to trade in Africa and beyond. While no major campaigns have occurred under the Edun name, both Bono and Mrs. Hewson have been featured in Louis Vuitton campaigns with the mention of Edun and the African connections.  It all changes for Edun with their debut campaign photographed by Ryan McGinley. The new Edun advertisement campaign features six photographs each featuring one of six species of butterflies – all indigenous to Africa.

Ryan McGinley, Wandering Comma

Alison Jacques Gallery will host Ryan McGinley’s large scale exhibition, Wandering Comma, from 24 November. Ryan continues his series of ‘young folk frolicking on a naked  roadtrip’, however everything feels a little more weighty and grown-up than previous work. As the gallery describes, “Ryan McGinley’s aesthetic has evolved over the past decade from a verité snapshot style to one that is more cinematic, even epic. More director than documentarist, McGinley has recently made photographs in which his imagination has become imprinted on the reality he captures. His working method involves a careful balance of the orchestrated and the unpredictable, the staged and the spontaneous.”

“Today’s exclusive film was sent to us by Ryan McGinley, the lauded artist-photographer whose heady visuals of cavorting teens (awash with atmospheric blurs, lens flares and flashes of light) have made him one of the most in-demand image-makers of the past decade. Earlier this year we were thrilled to premiere his film Entrance Romance (It Felt Like a Kiss), so imagine our excitement when we were presented with this intimate portrait of Smith Westerns and Girls—two of America’s most buzzed-about bands—at this year’s Pitchfork festival.” (nowness)

“I knew it was going to be wild when I signed on,” says Carolyn Murphy, who stars in Ryan McGinley’s exclusive short filmEntrance Romance (it felt like a kiss). “Next thing I know, my manager is telling me that they’re going to break glass on my head and my leading man’s a dog. I’m like, ‘That’s it?’ I was so sure I’d have to take my clothes off,” she says, laughing. Shot with a Phantom camera (capable of capturing video at over 1000 frames per second), Entrance Romance sees the all-American beauty (since 2002 the face of Estée Lauder) cheerfully turning a can of WD-40 into a flame thrower, passionately kissing a dog and smiling serenely as a bowl of goldfish smashes over her head.
