More Havaianas love… they work with Aussie’s Bassike. No complaining on these. They are as to the point as it gets. They were unveiled at Basslike’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week show for S/S 2010 (southern hemisphere).  At this time, it looks like they are available only in Australia. A bunch of the heavy hitters in boutique menswear are part of this Havaianas benefit project for Greenpeace. Havaianas reworks their Brasilian sandal using Pinel & Pinel crocodile skin materials for the strapping on the sandal. 24 units are being produced and sold exclusively through DSM, Corso Como, and Colette.

The Palm Springs Ace Hotel and Swim Club worked with sandal maker Havaianas on a set of flip-flops which hotel guests will find as part of their mini-bar offering. The sandals will run 22$US – a fair price for some sand kickers. You’ll also find them online at Havaianas US shop.

The recent May and June issues of Japanese fashion magazine Men’s Non-No have to be the best of 2009. The range of products showcased in Non-No’s pages have been amazing. The editorials, product, and styling are above and beyond what we normally expect from these guys. One of our favorite features in the June 2009 issue is a nice look at Lee Japan 2009 sandal line. These sandals are a little bit of everything. The black and brown are classic; simple and smooth and made for just about anyone. But if you feel like stepping up and out try on a pair of the wine colored bad boys. Unfortunately to get a pair you may have take a detour to Japan. (cw)

Raf Simons brings it on Gladiator style with one hell of a collection of sandals for Dr. Martens. You can only expect such design from Raf Simons. Let’s start with the 9 eyelet “Lace Sandal” which is imagined in black and white patent leather. The stitching is finished in Dr. Martens’ red thread for battle wear. The “Buckle” sandal is more toned down with patent and soft leather finish without the dissection of the lace-up. They may not be your choice sandal, but we can guarantee that someone is paying attention to the conceptual design and wearability of these looks.

Tomato UK is close to my heart. Their work with Underworld not only set a visual tone for the amazing electronic group but also opened my eyes to their stunning design work for the likes of Levis Japan, Citreon, Panasonic, and many others. They recently previewed sample views of their Spring 2009 sandal collaboration with Birkenstock. The classic Papirio is re-imagined with the Tomato love. The Birkenstock Papirio Sandals for Tomato will be available this Spring at Birkenstock’s Tokyo Daikanyama District Shop. (via core77)
