Time flies. Seems like just yesterday we were rooting through the offerings on display at Jacket Required’s first ever showing in London town. Craig Ford, Mark Batista and Andrew Parfitt have been working hard to step things up for this second outing. The brand list, now well over double in size, is still a select line up of labels, both British and from furtherfield, all of which represent their ethos of  ”quality of brand, diversity of offering and uniqueness of experience”. Our previous coverage is worth another look if you are just aquainting yourself with Jacket Required.

We asked the guys to give us their take on last season’s happening and look to  Jacket Required Autumn/Winter 2012 kicking of this Sunday at new venue, Victoria House in Bloomsbury. Brands old and new include; The Superior Labor, Filson, Bedwin and the Heartbreakers, Universal Works, Garbstore, Human Made, Sanders and many more tasty names. New Jersey’s Two Inch Cuffs have got together with East London store Number Six to create  this smart lookbook. Envisioned as the coming together of ‘British style and functional American sensibility’, we’d quite happily see it described as the reverse as well. With all the cross-pollination, collaborations, mutual admiration and various other words ending in ‘tion’, it’s just one big menswear world these days, all of us spinning around in a haze of togetherness and fancy shoes. The usual style suspects, McNairy, Garbstore, Barbour, Sanders, et al make an appearance in this well put together project.

The Sanders Playboy boot took on legendary status when little known, never photographed American actor, Steven McQueen (yeah, we’ve never heard of him either) wore them to great style effect in the 60’s. Setting themselves apart from the desert boot with a tough thick crepe sole it’s difficult to imagine a time when these won’t be a footwear classic.

If, like us, you’ve spotted those McNairy brogues with the extra chunky sole and thought ‘I like them, but I wonder if the sole could be trimmed down a tad?’ Well look no further. This is news to us, but Sanders have launched an e-tail site. And if that’s not shocking enough, it’s actually pretty darn good. Well, when we say pretty darn good, we actually means it functions just like you’d expect an online to function – and compared to Church’s site, that’s high praise. If you haven’t got your hands on a pair of bucks yet, Sander’s are the way to go. And all you big foots (including this writer) can rejoice, sizes stop at UK12, even UK13 on some models. [Sanders]

The current overarching trend for ‘classic’ shoes has left some designers in a spin. Why buy an overpriced collaboration when you can get the real thing for half the price? That’s the case with the Sanders chukka boot, which goes for the ridiculously reasonable price of £125. It’s got all things people hype about, Goodyear welted, quality suede, leather lined – and has the added bonus of not having an inflated price tag. The downside? Some tasty loden green buck shoes from Sanders to start off the year. Bucks, which have been just as overplayed as the deck shoe, simply cannot go out of style – especially when good brands keep mixing up the colorways of the suede. Coming in and filling both the Japan centric and buck shoe quota for the week are these excellent plain to bucks from Sanders for SHIPS.
