Seiko Active Matrix EPD Digital Watch

Seiko Active Matrix EPD Digital Watch

Seiko Japan delivered this excellent Seiko Active Matrix EPD Digital Watch back in December 2010. Since then, it looks to be a scarce find as most retailers are sold out on the unit. Nevertheless, you should be able to pick them up on the third party market.

What makes this Seiko special are the five active matrices display styles on its EPD (Electrophoretic display). It goes further by using radio wave automatic adjustments to keep time using the official atomic standard available in Japan, Germany, England and the United States. The display is highly readable.

Not stopping there, the Seiko Active Matrix EPD also features Home and World time views for those on the road. Stainless steel finished it off nicely. Nerd level goodness. Tip: mw.

Seiko PyramidTalk Clock Refreshed

Selectism - Seiko PyramidTalk Clock Refreshed

While the workwear movement of the 50’s and 60s continues to work its way (again) across world, the Japanese makers have their eyes set on some choice 80’s workings that seem ready for a refresh. Crunchgear points us at the legendary Seiko “PyramidTalk” talking desk top clock. “Some of the older CrunchGear readers will surely remember the PyramidTalk, a clock that verbally announced the time and other information. Seiko started selling the clock in 1984, and it turned out to be a big worldwide hit, with sales ballooning to 200,000 units per year at its peak. And now, just in time for Christmas, consumers (in Japan, at least) can lay their hands on an updated version.”

1982 Seiko Fieldmaster “Contra” Edition

seiko contra watch compass 01 1982 Seiko Fieldmaster Contra Edition

Hodinkee knows our love for the select of wristwatches is big. When they sent over this piece on the 1982 Seiko Fieldmaster “Contra” Edition how could we pass it up? The story behind the nickname alone is worth telling. “What we have found for you today is a watch called the Seiko Fieldmaster. It is commonly referred to as the Contra watch, because this was the watch worn by Contras in the early 1980s. It features a very interesting design of two small, 28mm analog instruments (a quartz watch and standard compass)sitting atop each other. It also came with a digital alarm tool and map guide. By turning the compass case, it can be removed and replaced by either the alarm or map guide, really a very useful design.” Drugs, government, and money.

Seiko Power Design Project

Since 2002, Seiko’s Power Design Project features innovative new artists expressing their view of wristwatches. For 2008’s exhibit, the Design Project took a new approach. “Thinking about what would result if SEIKO itself was to try its hand at designing such industrial watches led us to the theme for this year – “TOKYO”.  Rather than the watch-like feel brought into Japan from Europe, the watches here are bound to give you a “Tokyo-like” feel. In Japan, a country whose strong point lies in its attention to detail in the creation of things, the watches here are bound to feel more familiar, somehow Japanese…Tokyo-ish.” (via tz)
