Two smitten-worthy outfits come together to bring us this sleek, utilitarian boot. Denim purveyor Self Edge describes their niche in the world this way: “We don’t see a pair of jeans as just a pair of jeans. We see them as part of your life—something that ages with you and, like you, only becomes better with time.”

We couldn’t agree more, and, in the case of a quality piece of footwear, the same rules apply, which is something Leather Soul seems aware of by their own credo: “Aloha, our passion is for craftsmanship, style, the perfect fit and uncompromising service.”

One hundred pairs of the Alden boot were produced in each of two colors—black and Horween chromexcel (tan)—both bearing the telltale detail of a stitched mock toecap. You can pick them up starting February 18 at either Leather Sole location (Beverly Hills and Waikiki). In addition, Self Edge will be releasing an Iron Heart collaboration jean as part of the package.

A nice collaborative effort from Self edge and Toyo, Sugar Cane to be exact. Finding a slim/not too slim pair of black trousers is up there with the perfect white tee; once you get it you hold onto it for dear life. The West Coast guys tell us a bit about their take on the classic.

“Self Edge and Toyo Enterprises have come together to bring the ultimate pant in terms of hardware, details, and fit. Jungle Cloth fabric, hidden rivets, Sugar Cane pin-check pocket bags, red cotton twill inner leg seam lining, dark indigo poly-core stitch, iron embossed buttons, Buzz Rickson UFO rivets, and a slim fit round out this new release produced in a limited run.” Find them here.

Some new denim from the ROY line. We call it the ROY line but they’re really made by one man, Roy. He seems to do it all by hand locally in the States. Roy’s new blak/blue denim uses Cone (White Oak) canvas made from indigo dyed yarns, giving it a rich blue, almost black finish. They seem to wear in well, as shown in the photos down below. Five pockets as usual. Self Edge has them.

Denim masters, Self Edge, are opening doors on their new and “largest” store in the city of Angels, Los Angeles this week. The new Self Edge located at 144 La Brea Ave., will house all the brands found in their San Francisco and New York City stores. It officially opens tomorrow, September 1st. Be sure to stop in and tell them Selectism sent you.

New York. You win again with the exclusives. Self Edge’s Mr. Hoot Hickory Stripe Caps are a SENY shop exclusive yet they’re made in San Francisco. the cap features the “Self Edge” logo branded into the leather while the fabric liner is made from 1960’s deadstock Liberty of London fabric. It comes priced  $150 which is a fair price for a handmade cap as this one.

As mentioned before, Self Edge is about to opens doors on their new NYC location at 157 Orchard. The shop which will carry a slew of hard to find denim from Japan and beyond. It also happens to be a collaborative effort with the 3sixteen boys. “We have partnered with Kiya Babzani of Self Edge San Francisco to open Self Edge New York, which will carry the entire 3sixteen collection every season, as well as product manufactured in small numbers exclusively for the store. SENY will become 3sixteen’s marquee retailer in New York.” Expect the same quality of customer service you find at Self Edge’s San Francisco location in NYC with a few surprises…

We might as well call it “hard” ware. The very best of workwear continues to re-filter onto the shores of the USA. Self Edge is bringing it back home with these “Made in SF” Chambray Shirts. “Our take on a classic western chambray shirt stays true to classic stylings but adds a few twists. The front pockets have been flipped, pocket flaps are a curved arcuate shape, and the buttons are a little different than what’s normally found on a vintage shirt like this” Available now in long and short sleeve from Self Edge.

You have to work hard to get the construction on those old classic jackets proper. Buzz Rickson is one of those companies that will everything in their power to get it right. Their take on the classic 1910 model of the Naval Peacoat is a prime example. “The US Navy’s original pea-coat was fabricated from heavy, 36-ounce melton wool and, up until the late 1930’s, featured black bakelite buttons displaying an anchor surrounded by 13 stars; the 13 stars were derived from the original 13 states when the United States became an independent nation and broke its ties to England in 1776. The large-sized collar of the coat was designed to block strong ocean winds and the corduroy-lined side pockets helped thwart the numbing effect on hands from the biting winter seas..” Find it now at Self Edge (becoming regulars on Selectism!).

Japanese premium denim brand Iron Hearts presents a new series of super heavy weight flannels – Double Boomtime flannels. They come in a special cotton that Iron Hearts has been developing for over two years now and is apparently softer and heavier than your regular flannel. That’s the kind of dedication that we appreciate.
