ABSOLUT LONDON Bottle – by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz)

ABSOLUT LONDON Bottle - by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz)

How many reading this remember hunting down copies of Deadline back in the day? In the States it was a pain in the ass. Mailorder was usually the best option but even then, it took some months for those back issues to crawl off a boat from the U.K. The covers took me in. Imagine being 15 years old and seeing this slightly butch punk girl on the cover with a cigarette in her mouth… I definitely did not gravitate to it for any other reason. But truth be told, once inside, the discovery of the Tank Girl saga. Those new to Tank Girl can skip the movie and go straight to the current graphic novels ABSOLUT LONDON Bottle by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz).

Step into the late 90’s and the first Gorillaz record which had that very familiar comic art style of Jamie Hewlett. I was pretty much sold.

Today, ABSOLUT delivers their latest artist collaborative, part of their city series with ABSOLUT LONDON featuring the art of Mr. Hewlett, who takes on the history of London’s fashion scene over the last 200 years. On the bottle you’ll find all those scenes represented: the dandy’s, the punks, the mods, and our favorites, those terrace riding 80’s casuals.

50 total bottle of ABSOLUT LONDON will go on sale starting March 1 at Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. Good luck, collectors.

Selfridges Oxford Street “Music in May” Windows Displays

Selectism - Selfridges Oxford Street Windows: Music Takeover

It is not often I get to see Empire of the Sun, a band which I bet the house on in 2008, in the windows of Selfridges. From the looks of this article in Dazed, this would look to be true for a few as part of Selfridge’s Music for May campaign (which looks to be coming to a close). “As part of their Music in May season, Selfridges have invited ten music artists to takeover their window displays for their ‘Sounds of The Mind’ project where the Oxford Street store will be overrun with artwork inspired by a song, each by the musicians. The XX… alongside the like of Empire of the Sun, Marina & The Diamonds, Paloma Faith, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Drums, Florence, Hot Chip and Dizzee Rascal all applying their creatiive juices to design their own windows.”

blackberry selfridges mobile smart phone Blackberry for Selfridges 100th Birthday

I have to admit, the yellow colorway just works on this Blackberry for Selfridges 100th birthday celebration. If you missed it the first time, here’s another shot at them “BlackBerry created only 10 limited edition handset, all of which sold out within the first two weeks! However, due to popular demand BlackBerry have now created one last handset, which will be acquired by one lucky customer on the last day of May. Customers may phone the Concept Store at Selfridges Oxford Street to leave their details and be entered for the chance to buy the last centenary BlackBerry!”

World’s Smallest Book

27 August 2008, 16.09 | Posted in Books & Magazines | 7 comments »

selectism - World's Smallest Book

The smallest book in the World goes on sale this week at the Concept Store within Selfridges’ Wonder Room.

The leather bound book takes the art of printing and bookbinding to an entirely new dimension of precision.  Renowned German typographer Joshua Reichert especially created a colourful alphabet for this tiny ABC-picture book, exclusively produced in the traditional book city of Leipzig where the idea was originally born.

Measuring 2.4 x 2.9 mm and presented in a wooden box including a magnifying glass, this is the world’s smallest book in a published edition.  “It was printed in the usual way, but all the machinery and tools had to be created in miniature first.” The book is published by Die Gestalten.

Printed in an edition of 300, Selfridges have the last available stock of the title and at £70 a snip for such a collectable item.

More detailed images follow after the jump.
