Cut and sewn in Los Angeles, these new tartan overshirts from Left Field are made from 100% cotton 12oz American tartan twill. That makes them very heavy; you can wear them as an overshirt if you like. It is also slim fit so if you plan on wearing it a bit more baggy, be sure to size up. It’s hard not to feel weary of rugby shirts. The skin tight numbers currently on show at the World Cup aren’t really our thing and as much as we like the old school variety they instantly make us think of braying Hooray Henrys swigging pints at the student union bar. However, we’ll set our prejudices aside, especially when it comes to Archival Clothing who rarely put a foot wrong. This 10 ounce cotton knitted jersey is produced in Oregon by Columbiaknit. Soft but tough enough to withstand the most violent of scrums, we might just have to rethink our view on this old classic.

The ever reliable Post Overalls bring us this fantastic Calico print number. A rich shade of red that makes this stand out from the crowd, it’s nice to see a bit of bold colour in an increasingly indigo world. The CPO is the king of the shirt/jacket hybrid and if anyone can offer a solid take on this standard it’s Japan’s Workers. This one leans more towards the jacket with the two front slant pockets and wider body, plenty of room for layering on colder days. Runs of each item are limited so grab this while you can.

Another great print from our Swedish friends at Our Legacy. This time they’ve chosen the ever reliable polka dot, white spots on grey 100% cotton brushed fabric, giving this a washed and worn look. Curved hem and cuffs, this feels like the kind of shirt you throw on without giving it too much thought. Don’t forget to look a little surprised when the compliments come rolling in. Stop the presses, hold the phones, tell your boss to shut up, we’ve got something important to tell you. Drumroll please…..we’ve found a chambray shirt worthy of recommending. Big news, we know. After the great chambray invasion we were left a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of chambray available, so we avoided it altogether. Trust the Garbstore to pull us back in like a Godfather quote. Don’t buy the large though, we haven’t bought one for ourselves yet. (Garbstore)

We’ve raved about One Nine Zero Six in previous posts and we’re not backing down. These guys are making some seriously covetable modern menswear, a sharp eye for quality and cut they keep things deceptively simple. Lo-key detailing is their strength, this heavy cotton work shirt a prime example. Made in England it features a military style chest pocket, stitched side gusset detail – the open, curved front giving it a pullover feel that sets it apart from your average casual shirt.
