Wharf Clothing & Wares Shirting

selectism - Wharf Clothing & Wares Shirting

Nestled into a (very) unassuming location in Warwick, RI, Wharf Clothing & Wares is just under 3 months old. In that short time, owner Robert Babigian has built an impressive inline collection of shirting – I spent some time in the shop yesterday, inspecting firsthand. Sure, Rob benefits greatly from collaboration with the nearby New England Shirt Company (of Fall River, MA). But, he benefits equally from having a firm sense of what works and a willingness to play around. Shirts are produced in both oxford broadcloth and poplin, the club collar poplin shirts being the winner… though it must be noted that collar choices all round are what most impress about the collection. (We also love any opportunity to mention Fall River… and give a shout out to Chris Herren).

Take a detailed look at the Wharf Shirt – including a look at the club collar – after the leap.

selectism - Won Hundred Plaid Shirting for Autumn/Winter 2010

Taking a quick break from highlighting the futures market, we take a look at the autumn/winter 2010 shirting collection from Won Hundred. The Danish brand happily plays with pastel tones – green, blue, purple, and red the chosen flavors.

Minimally detailed, the shirts have a single button enclosure to the chest pocket, a pocket that sits nicely along the full plaid lines of the shirt body.

A look at the autumn/winter 2010 Won Hundred shirts in every color and detail after the jump.

Lou Dalton Chambray Shirt

Selectism - lou-dalton-chambray-shirt-01

We’re sure there’s plenty of folks looking at their google reader in disgust right now. Yep, it’s yet another chambray shirt – but this one has a silk collar, which (genuinely) makes all the difference. And it’s on sale too, which helps. We featured this over on our seven days feature a while back, so we’ve featured that look after the leap – use it as inspiration. (Oki-Ni)

Aquascutum Spring/Summer 2010 Limited Collection

selectism - Aquascutum Spring/Summer 2010 Limited Collection

“Understated British Elegance”

Aquascutum keeps to the above tag with their current spring/summer 2010 limited collection. The London firm is all about attention to detail and fine tailoring. They’ve been at it for awhile – since 1853, when they invented the first waterproof cloth – and has at various times been a favorite of every British male in my family.

On the right you’ll see the Northam Raincoat in beige. It’s a contemporary take on the garment that made Aquascutum famous so many years ago. Like most of the brand’s outerwear, expect that it is made with care in Corby, Northamptonshire. While suits and shirting fall into the collection, Aquascutum is at its best protecting us from the elements.

More looks after the Aquascutum Spring/Summer 2010 limited collection follow.

Velour Check/Striped Shirt

Selectism - velour-check-stripe-shirt-01

While we’ve always held the rules of menswear in slight disdain – they’re usually just a tool to stop men from trying anything remotely adventurous – we are aware of their existence. Mixing checks and stripes has long been a sartorial no-no, but apparently Velour pay no attention to these rules; they’ve had the sheer gumption to mix checks and stripes on one shirt. We should hate it, we really should, but it’s so wrong it’s right. (Number Six)

Take a leap to see detailed images.

Engineered Garments Work Shirt

selectism - engineered-garments-work-shirt

Here’s something we like to see – a shirt with a difference. We’re bored beyond belief with traditional check shirts, so we’re bound to get a little excited when a see a shirt attempting something different. We’re seriously considering releasing doves in the air like it was a Michael Jackson trial. Engineered Garments can take things a little too far sometimes (remember that tweed top hat?) but pieces like this remind everyone why they fell in love with the brand in the first place. Pendleton Woolen Mills for Edwin

11 January 2010, 18.03 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - Edwin x Pendleton Woolen Mills

Edwin’s collaborative shirting with Pendleton brings together the outstanding heritage and craft of two fine mills. The obvious (from title and look) is Pendleton Woolen Mills, located in beautiful Oregon, USA. The second of the mills, offering the lovely denim detailing, is Kaihara of Japan. Established in 1951, Kaihara began with 34 looms. By the 1970s, they had developed rope dying machines, and 20 years later grown into one of the world’s most renowned producers of sanforized selvedge denim.

What does this bit of (watered down) history tell us about new product? Well, it suggests Edwin has maintained an interest in established methods of production and factories with irrefutable lineage. And, the result is a run of limited (just 300) pieces down in very special color.

Set for July release, so this is just a little tease.

Loving this slip-on from Tom’s. It’s a casual rocker with a twist which plays well against most outfits and will compete heavily with my Nike Air Wovens as the weirdest looking shoes I own. I am indeed a fan of them. Well priced at $48 from Need Supply Co.
