UMBRO Celebrates 88 Years with Icons Re-Issue Collection

umbro icons reissues collection 2012 1 UMBRO Celebrates 88 Years with Icons Re Issue Collection

88 years is a fair amount of time for a brand like UMBRO. Shit, I remember in high school the competition was always between Diadora and UMBRO. Like a land war. The scruffs in school went for the UMBRO of course, including myself. Did it mean I played better? Hell no. If anything is designated me as one of those picks that would do the man handling necessary to sway the ball in our team’s favor. I thank UMBRO everyday for making me the player I am.

In all serious, today UMBRO continues to build off their legacy in a very proper manner. The launch of the UMBRO Icons Re-issue collecton, a four garment array of some classic favorites – the ’66 Anthem Jacket, the Mexico ’70 Jersey, the Taped Track Jacket and Drill Top. Each garment is a stitch by stitch authentic construction of the originals.  If you know the game, you will know these four “Icons” from the UMBRO collection. For those new to the game, put on some cleats and tear up the turf.

Brutus – Dr. Martens – Trimfit Shirt

Brutus - Dr. Martens - Trimfit Shirt

Recently catching a glimpse of SE7EN—a keystone movie of the ’90s—we were taken aback at just how baggy Brad Pitt’s dress shirts are in that film. As Dr. Martens, another big-time hallmark of that decade, are enjoying a real renaissance in popularity, it is nice to see that slouchy-as-hell button-ups are, for the most part, being left back with the Manic Panic. Brutus has been taking that style point to heart since the ’60s, as the London-based purveyor of the Trimfit shirt. As the name suggests, these long- and short-sleeved button-ups hug the torso and completely outrun any unnecessary draping.

This collaboration between Doc Martens and Brutus celebrates the former’s iconic oxblood leather and yellow stitching with a damn proper plaid. That the boots and the shirt look made for one another is no surprise, the brands have been paired by the well-dressed working class—and maybe even a few homicide detectives—for decades. -jt

Outlier Soft Core Rain Shirts

outlier rain shirt 1 Outlier Soft Core Rain Shirts

Oh, Outlier. Your Keirin Cut Dungarees are so comfortable, resilient and good-looking that ever since putting them on it has been hard to get excited about any other pants in the dresser drawer—even a pair of fancy Marc Jacobs jeans excavated from the bottom of a clearance pile. This damn rain shirt looks to be cut from the same attention-ensnaring cloth. Well, not technically the same cloth—this guy is lined with Superfine Merino wool, for starters—but this combination of their Soft Core Wool Vest and Supermarine Rain Shirt has us thinking fondly of the nylon coach’s jackets we’d buy at the sporting goods store in high school. A grown up and refined version that’s essentially a cozy, water resistant dress shirt. - jt

Pitti - Versus Tokyo - Flaph by Teruki Tatsui

Pattern-blocked shirts are not that new of a phenomenon in menswear. In fact, in the last five years, our brothers at Highsnobiety have features their fair share of this style of work. But fashion comes in cycles; some shorter than others. Flaph looks to be the latest to work in this vein. Their messenger, out of frame in our shot is of slight interest as well. Designer, Teruki Tatsui did a stint at Slam City Skates in London as well.

PAUL SMITH SS12 shirt 01 Paul Smith Floral Summer Shirt for 2012

Paul Smith floral shirt, part of Goodhood’s recent delivery of Spring Summer garments. It’s loud, it’s bright, it’s going to draw looks.  Not to worry. Slim-fit, 50’s style tab collar, lightweight cotton.

PS by Paul Smith Floral Shirt

Selectism - paul-smith-floral-shirt-01

There’s been a full season of floral shirts now and it looks like things have started to calm down on the pattern front, if this shirt is anything to go by. A lot of floral options this year have been on the loud side, so we don’t blame anyone if they wanted to sit back and wait on some more subdued options. Despite the fact that it almost looks tie-dyed, this shirt is still more laid-back than most options earlier this year. Perfect for the trend toe-dipper out there. (Mr Porter)
