Capsule | Narrative Spring/Summer 2012

Selectism - narrative-spring-2012-02

Now onto an old SL favourite in Narrative. After a couple of seasons off the radar, they’ve relaunched at the rate of a speeding shark. Clumsy references aside, their shark sole is a firm favourite of ours (and we have to note that they’ve been doing this for muuuuch longer than Prada, check our archives) and they’ve also cleaned up the wallaby. As someone who doesn’t think everything was perfected in 1960, we agree with any updates to classics that actually improve them.

Mark McNairy Stone Suede Brogues

Selectism - mcnairy-suede-longwing-brogues-01

Kick in the door waving the four four with these McNairy brogues. We’re gonna be outright stubborn and say we still prefer the traditional UK brogue over the long wing, but we can appreciate the beauty in both of them. With a suede upper and red brick sole, this is a shoe best saved for those days when rain is an impossibility. Otherwise you’ll be doing your best Antonio Daniels guarding Allen Iverson impression. Viberg have just released images of their newest reiteration of the scout boot. This time they’ve got some Harris tweed in the mix, making it so blogtastic that we couldn’t ignore it. Apparently it’s unsure whether it’ll see a general release but it’s something to keep an eye out for. (eightyfoureightyfive)

Bally Spring/Summer 2012 Footwear Preview

Selectism - Bally-spring-2012-shoes-01

When they’re not busy being namechecked by every rapper you can think of, Bally are making the kind of shoes you, us and everyone you know want a piece of. We’re not sure if rappers want the shoes, but if they’ve got an iota of taste, they should get on board. Hopefully Rick Ross will make a song about them. Judging from ‘Reebok Back’, he’ll rap about anything if the price is right.

For the record, the model above is the Scribe Legère.

Band of Outsiders Shoes

Selectism - band-of-outsider-shoes-01It’s seasonal mash-up time. There’s spring/summer 12 collections being showcased, spring/summer 11 items on sale and autumn/winter 11 clothes entering stores, all happening at the same, rather confusing, time. Here’s a shoe from Band of Outsiders autumn/winter collection, which just fell into stores. They’re perfect for doing your best recreation of the dance scene in the film the brand is named after. Rancourt by Jack Spade “Hadley Loafer”

selectism - rancourt by jack spade

Part of a broad series of Maine-made shoes under the “Rancourt by Jack Spade” banner, the “Hadley Loafer” features two-tone shell cordovan leather in an otherwise traditional penny loafer silhouette. Rancourt, family owned and operated, is also responsible for some of Mr. Mark McNairy’s moccasins. While Jack Spade has also worked up two boots and a camp moc, it is the penny that has our heart.

Pitti | Woolrich Woolen Mills Spring/Summer Shoes 2012

Selectism - woolrich-woolen-mills-shoes-spring-2012-01

Main collection aside, the thing we spotted from the Woolen Mills stand was these desert boots. Available in sand, navy and olive green, they look like, you know, a pair of desert boots. That is, until you spot the small vent, which we haven’t noticed on any of McNairy’s shoes before.
