Florsheim by Duckie Brown Spring/Summer 2010

13 October 2009, 15.30 | Posted in Shoes | 1 comment »

selectism - florsheim-by-duckie-brown-spring-2010-01Duckie Brown’s interpretation of Florsheim’s shoes was a runaway success when they launched, so it’s no surprise that they’ve continued that great work with their SS10 collection. While these yellow brogues may be too much for the colour-phobic, they’re a perfect example of why the collaboration was a needed one. They incorporate the American style of brogue-ing with full grain leather and a leather welt – and they’re also yellow, which, admittedly, is quite the focal point. Elsewhere in the collection there’s also suede lace up shoes, loafers, saddle shoes and laceless brogues.

Thorocraft Shelton and Hudson Shoes

Selectism - Thorocraft Shelton and Hudson Shoes

Following up on our earlier post on Thorocraft, we preview two new models coming this Spring 2010. The Shelton and Hudson may be shoes but we prefer to call them boots. Their low sole allows them to be worn more properly while retaining that casual feel. The suede on the Hudons with it’s white stitching is a nice contrast, but for the rainier days, the Shelton is the standout.

Pierre Hardy Spring/Summer 2010 Shoes

Here’s one for the low profile lovers. Now that boat shoes are on their way out – or will be come 2010 – those of you who still need a shoe that allows for socklessness need look no further than Pierre Hardy’s collection. Hardy uses the laces from boat shoes and interprets them into an altogether sleeker shoe. There’s also the requisite blue suede loafers (pictured above), suede brogues and, oddly, workwear-esque boots.

Officine Creative Duck Boot

Selectism - Officine Creative Duck Boot

Another option in the duck boot battle. Office Creative’s Duck Boot shows a less shiny and more weathered look to the silhouette with leather wrapping the boot instead of the traditional rubber. Italian made goodness. Barney’s has them. (acquire)

Church’s Spring/Summer 2010

08 October 2009, 17.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - churchs-spring-2010-01Usually, heritage brands aren’t great at Spring/Summer collections – they’re usually too clumpy for summer or there’s just something a little off about them. Church’s bucked that trend with their SS09 collection, a collection of brightly coloured suede deserts and loafers that wouldn’t have been out of place in any stylish man’s wardrobe. Their SS10 collection continues that good work, this time mixing a traditional leather welt with a white EVA foam sole to make a very daring shoe for someone like Church’s. Other shoes include suede brogues, white tennis shoes and loafers, a correspondent number and some good ol’ desert boots.

Rachel Comey Patent ‘Evans’ Derby Shoe

selectism - rachel-comey-evans-caramel-patent-shoe-01

We know that winter has officially arrived, but we’re still on the lookout for a good summer shoe – we’re oddballs like that. Judging from this shoe, Comey’s got us covered. Some of Comey’s shoes have a tendency to ‘bulge’ at the sides due to the lightness of the material, giving the shoe a slightly cheap look; this shoe avoids that issue by being made from patent leather. The leather sole isn’t ideal for wet weather, but we’d be ready to bring these out as soon as the sun comes out again. (Forward)

The song remains the same, take a hop and skip to see further images.

Casely-Hayford Spring/Summer 2010 Shoes

selectism - casely-hayford-spring-2010-shoes-03

The good folks at Style Salvage turn us on to Casely-Hayford’s SS10 shoe range. The range, which features four shoes in total, range from the ‘ottoman’ brogue to the ‘allotment’ creeper. The latter is definitely the marmite shoe of the bunch, but we feel the right person could pull it off. The Albert quilted slipper (pictured above) is a returning favourite – it’d make a great alternative to the standard loafer and you might even see one of us rocking these come next summer.
