Selectism - Wish You Were Here |  London-NYC Shop Swap

Wallpaper* reports in regarding an interesting take on pop-up retail with a cross Atlantic swap of sorts. The “Wish You Were Here” Project positions 30 London boutiques into the Lower East Side at 186 Orchard Street. “More than just an excuse for a group jolly, the conglomerate of independent boutiques are engaging in an extended swap shop with counterparts of the Lower East Side shopping district – feeling a symbiotic, albeit transatlantic approach to their brands, both individually and of the two areas as a whole.”

The third store designed by Dimitris Padopoulous and Yiannis Konilus for Comme des Garcons in Athens is a more permanent vision than the previous pop-up (Gorilla) shops. Conceived as white cube meets boutique, the effect (as seen) is minimal. Shelving of white wood against white walls. The space is shared by Bearbrick, who inhabit the raw space of the old pop-up. This allows for a striking change of pace from brand to brand, as well as a contrast between the design duos new and early spaces. (via Frame).

Tenue de Nimes is a new denim boutique in the heart of Amsterdam. The interior design has been trusted to Anothercompany. The firm developed a raw look, thinking critically about the heritage of denim. Anothercompany was founded in 2003 and has worked with clients as diverse as K-Swiss and The House of Bols. (via CB).

Sarah Wigglesworth Architects have designed and built a new storage facility to house up to 76 bicycles in Bermondsey, London. The structure is part of the redevelopment of Bermondsey Square. Bikes will be stored using a double decker system devised by Josta. (via Dezeen).

""A three-level, 146,000-square-foot apparel and accessories store and a one-level, 54,000-square-foot home store will together anchor The Dubai Mall…Bloomingdale’s said the merchandise assortment, upscale ambience and high level of customer service will be similar to its stores in the U.S., while being sensitive to local preferences and customs.""
