WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie Travel Slippers & Bracelets Autumn/Winter 2012

want les essentiels fall 2012 3 WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie Travel Slippers & Bracelets Autumn/Winter 2012

I could go and show you many of the wonderful new bags from Montreal’s WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, including a new all-Japan produced document holder/wallet/passport holder selection… but we’ll revisit those at a later time (closer to their arrival). For now, I stick to a pair of zip-flat slippers and bracelets made from the same leathers and  zippers found on the WANT Les Essentiels bags. The zip-flat slippers are easy and the image tells the whole story. If you by chance fall into a hotel with no house slippers for use, pull these out of your packaway for a comfortable walk on tile or carpet. The bracelets are even easier: thrown one on to compliment your day look.

For many Christmas is the only time of year when having a serious conversation about slippers is permissible. Fact is you’re going to spend a lot of the holiday period doing some serious lounging, tying up shoes just feels very un-Christmas-ey. There is also the fact that slippers make the perfect gift, like handing over pure comfort. This stylish number from Swedish designer Pia Wallén manages to retain an element of cool while allowing you to kick back. Find them in red, grey or cream at Lollipop Shoppe.

Aspinal of London Embroidered Velvet Slipper

Selectism - aspinal-of-london-slipper-01

Get your Jeeves on with these embroidered slippers. As much as we like rolling the  street in our trainers, smoking endo and sippin’ on gin and juice, we do like getting regal. And you can’t get more regal than velvet slippers. They’re handmade in England and, more importantly, will make you feel like Hugh Hefner minus the weird, almost pedophiliac relationships. Thurmocs American Deerskin Slippers

We’re unclear as to where these deerskin slippers will end up in your wardrobe. We’re thinking as relax-time huggers to use in the beach house. Avoid the dance floors with them as deerskin is too damn supple to be used for such traditional engagements. Hickorees has them.

Muji Houseshoes

Selectism - muji-houseshoes-01Unsurprisingly, we like feeling bawsy around the house. And, for us at least, the best way to do that is by wearing some bawse-like slippers. Actually slippers isn’t grand enough a name – we prefer the term ‘house shoes’. Our only problem with these is that we can’t walk down the street in them. Maybe someone should get on the blower to Birkenstock and tell them they’re missing a trick? (Muji)

Flip-flops aside, slippers are still king of my front yard walk. Hell, if Omar can walk to get his cereal in a pair, so can you. Do it in leather – nappa at that. Suede lined for the comfort. They have it.

Scott Hawaii Leahi Slipper

Scott Hawaii Leahi Slipper

Started in 1932, Scott Hawaii was founded by Elmer and Jean Scott from Marblehead, MA. The Scott family comes from a very long line of shoe makers and “it didn’t take them long to establish a reputation within their community of Hawaii as manufacturers of quality footwear.” They first produced “plantation boots for the sugarcane and pineapple fields,” but due to WWII, “materials came in short supply” hence they started designing casual footwear. This soon led to the development of the “slippah.” The “Leahi” Slipper has a molded outsole and features a non-slip arch suppport, textured leather insole and a rolled leather strap that is lined with nylon to eliminate stretch. It is offered in tan, brown and black.

Barker Black Brown Velvet Slippers

England’s Barker Black delivers a pair of brown velvet slippers that feature hand embroidered logos on the toe – no two pairs are exactly the same. While the world is chilling in the Wings and Yuketens, you can be giving workwear a big middle finger with a pair of these. Killer.

Herring Monarch Slippers

Selectism - herring-monarch-purple-slippers-01

We’ve been on the lookout for some house slippers lately. We were tempted to go the cheap route, but then we saw these. They’re an acquired taste but we feel that we (and you readers) are bawsy enough to pull them off. And yes, they are £120 – but you’ve gotta pay the cost to look like a bawse. (Herring)
