Spellbound of  Okayama Japan continue down a familiar road for Spring/Summer 2012. A collection with few surprises and many appearances of chambray, check, denim and, whisper it, ‘Classic American Clothing’, this would have us yawning if it wasn’t executed so perfectly. Some brands are pushing things forwards, others are perfecting much loved standards – we welcome both schools of thought on these here pages. So, Spellbound for the summer months? A huge collection comprised of light, airy, easy wearing, no iron needed garments to throw on and forget about. Nice. Fans outside Japan may wish to head here for more. (GT)

Japanese brand Spellbound, straight out of Okayama, bring us this amazing Deck Jacket. Inspired by the USN’s skilled use of denim during world war two, they’ve added a couple of extra details that give this a chore jacket feel alongside its seafaring roots. A neat shawl collar, 4 reinforced pockets, leaf logo donut buttons, 100% cotton, we’re told the denim on this one is exceptional. There have been many repros with this model but without sticking too tightly to the rules Spellbound have created one of the best on the market. Find it at Sivletto.

Spellbound continue their good work in the denim sector with this work cap. Lots of nice detail with the peak stitching and hook fastening. Inspired by headwear of old, imagine yourself driving a train or toiling in the fields with this one. We’d recommend ignoring the price tag though, might spoil the working man illusion a little. Here’s a look at Spellbound’s newest collection. With fashion week going on, it’s welcome respite to see a cookbook that’s focused on wearable pieces. While those pre-worn denim will be a bone of contention, the rest of it is pretty hard to fault. In fact you could even replicate these outfits and not look absolutely crazy (though you might look odd if you don’t wear shoes).

We know, we know. It’s a hunting inspired jacket. Just tone down the rest of your outfit – could we suggest not wearing hiking boots with this jacket? – and you won’t get the rich lumberjack look that so many folks have right now. (C Store)

Spellbound will be showcasing their new offering for A/W 2010 at (capsule) Paris at the end of the month. For those not able to attend, they offer us a preview of the denim looks – from shirting to jeans – in distressed and close to raw form. My favorite may be the indigo dyed hoodie. We cannot wait to feel this garment which can only feel like butter.
