Our friends at Tenue de Nimes visited with Nigel Cabourn to discuss the current season’s collection. “He wanted to share a sneak preview with us of his 2011 Spring Summer collection. He told us about his search for old designs, materials and fabrics. He shared some of his most bizarre finds with us and told us about his quest to put these finds in a contemporary, Nigel Cabourn perspective. This search for a perspective led him to this season’s theme: The Submarine.”

The “Burning Bright” t-shirt collection from Martyn Bal take a positive approach to the troubled “economies” of the world. The focus looks to be on positive energy. That’s what fashion brings. “Despite all this [bad economy], Martyn Bal has a positive outlook and uses the hand as an immortal romantic symbol to put a mystical emphasis on energy free from external restrictions, and to reflect and realise the intrinsic beauty of nature and man against control, power and defeat.”

Giant 45’s is a smart up and coming line from New York with a focus on the classic 45 platters. Heavily inspired by the disco 12inch records (known as giant 45’s to some) which blasted some of the moment’s best sounds in original and remix form. “Much of the character attributed to these designs arose from cover art and graphic design from obscure records (as they tend to be more bizarre) in the late 70s to early 80s– predominantly of Italian and German origins.”  Think Moroder and beyond.
