I never gave Club Monaco much of my attention until my wife spotted a pair of their plaid, lambswool trousers on a thrift store rack in Wanatchee, WA for a cool buck. They’d never even been worn, but that’s been made up for over the past six months, as they’ve become something of a weekly staple—warm; perfect fit; khaki with peach squares; real winners.

Club Monaco’s Spring 2012 collection is rife with more versatile and perfectly pleasant wares. Standouts on initial glance include the Timothy Shirt Jacket (especially in the Southwestern blanket print), the Lightweight Chinos (why not go for it in the yellow?), the Edward Shirt and matching tie (mad for plaid) and the Jorn B. Trouser (is that chambray?). Complete looks from this collection aren’t going to blow any minds—and the Miguel Shorts looks a little diapery—but there’s plenty of solid stuff to mix in with whatever might be waiting for you elsewhere as the weather warms, thrift stores included. - jt

Our good friends at We are the Market deliver this preview look at the Spring/Summer 2012 collectin from Reyn Spooner. “With Reyn Spooner’s SS12 Collection adorning the models and walls in the basement of Lani Kai, the private press preview quickly became a beach party complete with delicious tropical drinks and a fashionable crowd grooving to dreamy tunes. While the showing’s guests were the type of people to normally pine for the sartorial layering that comes with Autumn, the slim-cut printed shirts and trunks had us all envisioning days in the surf and nights on the sand.”

The folks at Crane TV invite us into the world of British designer Lou Dalton. We’ve been fans of Lou’s work for quite some time now so we’re more than happy to hear the lady chat influences, her beginnings in the industry and the man she imagines when putting pencil to paper.

Oliver Spencer offer us a front row seat with this video from their London Fashion Week show at Covent Garden’s Mercer Street Studio. If Mr.Spencer has his way we’re going to be close friends with the blazer come Spring time. A staple throughout most of his collections, his latest offerings come in single and double breasted varieties and range from relaxed to a more tailored cut, smart enough for any formal work situation you might find yourself in. Other stand out items include a loose cut trouser in various fabrics and colours, as well as some nice casual shirts and a brief appearance by the breton which can only be a good thing.

Style Salvage takes a look at the “sartorial journey across Central America” offered by the Spring/Summer 2012 collection from Agi & Sam. Native and local fashions from the area are re-purposed in the duo’s new collection as an offering of sorts; colors are strong and blended into various patterns of wear. While the collection pulls from the Central American theme, it also seems like a studied extension in the vein of other forward thinking designers.

After a bit of pre-season teasing, @Pierre_Balmain finally reveal their full looks for Spring/Summer 2012. Foregoing the usual campaign slots, Pierre Balmain chose instead to run three pre-show videos (featured here on Selectism). The collection debuted in Paris yesterday and we present it to the world today. Some notes on the collection that features various “downtown wardrobe essentials; leather jackets and vests, tailored skinny jeans and signature Balmain zebra prints (inspired by Mr. Balmain’s first trip to an African safari). The collection encouraged a mixture of fabrics and textures, like pairing a women’s leather skirt with a menswear-inspired tuxedo jacket. A theme of androgyny also ran throughout, as pieces including a boxer-inspired leather drawstring pant, or motorcycle leather jacket, appeared for both men and women.”
