Stone Island step forward with their first collection of sunglasses developed by EG Brands. A very Italian affair in terms of looks, the range makes use of the ever popular Carl Zeiss lens with the frames “based on forms that have become icons of fashion in eyewear, interpreted with modern designs and created with a high level of quality” The round sunglasses with side panels are favourite with takes on the wayfarer and aviator also offered in various shades. Some looks from the Stone Island showroom installation for Milan Design Week 2012 aka Salone Internazionale del Mobile. A few notes on the elements seen in the photography: the Silver Tank was designed by Stone Island in-house creative, “Heliocentric System by John Alfredo Harris… Perfetto Imperfetto Perrero DP by Sergio Perrero.” On display at Via Savona 54 – 20144 Milan from now through April 22.

Perhaps there was never such a frank and direct realization on the matter before, but we have always wanted a rain slicker that looks like magic kelp. This field jacket from Stone Island goes one step beyond by contrasting the distinctive green Polyurethane-coated cotton with a cobalt interior. A hood, a hidden pocket—all just icing.

“Made by bonding light cotton muslin to transparent polyurethane, it’s fully waterproof, wind resistant,” we are told, “and has already been named, ‘The best thing I’ve ever seen,’ by one Oi Polloi founder” (Oi Poloi having the jacket in stock).

We’re a bit late to showing Stone Island’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Sure, it has been out on the blog-o-sites for a bit of time, but we appreciate the art of the reminder. Here’s Snobs take on the collection. “With the rise of technical fashion and more innovation in the market, the Italian brand was suddenly again at the front of the movement, because to be honest, they have always done that – developed their own innovative fabrics, added unseen functionality into their clothing. We have heard people say, that other high fashion houses in Italy would scoop up the entire Stone Island collection at the beginning of each season for inspiration. We are not sure any other brand can say that of their lines.”

This technical blazer from Stone Island’s Shadow Project is a fine example of forward leadership in the high end technical outwear market. “Designed to bridge the distance between elegance and protection, it is an optimal combination of tradition and technology. The natural wool face is laminated to a waterproof, windproof, and breathable performance membrane with a synthetic backer. Liner-less 3-ply construction and taped seams result in garments that are truly contemporary in both their aesthetics and range of use.” Blue and Green has it.

Stone Island continues pushing with their fashion forward Shadow Project collection with these excellent sweat pants. The drawstrings along the leg openings are the draw, literally allowing for you to adjust the wear to your preferred slouch. Ital0-made. Big fans. Haven has them.

“With this video, Stone Island presents the Heat Reactive Jacket. A hooded bomber jacket in cotton nylon canvas with thermosensitive liquid crystals, the garment changes colour according to the temperature: the warmer, the fairest, the cooler, the darker.”

Carlo Rivetti’s Stone Island brand brings a very interesting collection from the Stone Island Shadow Project for Spring 2011. All the design details are fine tuned to each piece which makes the collection so interesting. “Stone Island Shadow fabrics are carefully chosen for their balance of performance technologies and the unique aesthetic treatments and values for which Stone Island has been famous since its inception.” The “Long Sleeve Catch Pocket Raglan Tee” is a 100% jersey cotton shirt and offers a ribbed neck and cuffs. The one detail that really distinguishes the shirt is the vertical “catch pocket.” This pocket allows for a secure hold on items. As you bend over, the shirt pocket is able to secure items from falling out. Most pocket tees similar to this shirt never really held anything securely it was almost just an aesthetic detail that served no real purpose, but thanks to the Stone Island guys we no longer have this problem. It’s offered in the blue and black color way. UNION has it.

A reminder that it is almost time again for thinking about outwear.  The Stone Island hooded ‘ice” jacket is an interesting piece (shown as ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ above). “Blue down Ice Jacket from Stone Island in it’s innovative heat reactive material, which uses a thermochromatic coating, that changes colour with changes in temperature. Between 15 °C and 10°C this jacket will start transforming from its original slate blue colour to an almost pitch black.” Nittygritty has them left in XL but we’re sure you can find them elsewhere.
