‘Soft Hercules’ Stool

07 December 2011, 21.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

Selectism - hercules-stool-01

Ever wanted to sit on Hercules’ face? Don’t play coy, of course you have. Now you can, thanks to this stool. Made from foam rubber (the kind used for stress balls) it’s the sort of thing you get for life, not just for Christmas. Aside from looking cool, the foam makes sure it’ll actually be comfy to sit on, which is a nice thought. (FAT)

wood faulk stool 023 Wood & Faulk Camping Stool

Superdenim point us to website Wood & Faulk. An interesting concept offering DIY tutorials for some great items such as camera bags, book straps and stools as well as some fine looking recipes and product reviews. They also sell through their online store, this camping stool being one of their most impressive items. While they offer the instructions for you to build your own we can’t help thinking we’ll leave it to the experts. Hardwood ash and English bridle leather, a top piece whether you take it out to the woods or watch telly from it in the comfort of your own manor.

MAKR Studio Work Stools

Stepping outside the boundaries of their excellent leatherwork products, Florida’s MAKR heads down the path of industrial design with the studio work stools. Three colorways in the MAKR work stools are available; our favorite being the pewter powder coat finish with black walnut seat. For those looking to add an industrial touch to their surroundings. Find the new work stools in the MAKR online shop.

Dzierlenga F+U Stool

12 October 2011, 14.30 | Posted in Furniture | No comments »

Dzierlenga F+U Stool

Utilitarian stool alert. This simple piece of wooden goodness is made by the fair hand of Casey Dzierlenga in her L.A studio. Part of the Box Collective, a group of woodworkers committed to traditional techniques and responsible sourcing, she favours reclaimed dunnage for this piece. A mix of oak, alder and sycamore this lumber was originally used to protect cargo on ships. Finger joints mean an absence of nails, as is traditional in shaker furniture and stretch bars give support as well as providing handles at either side. Above all else this just looks the absolute business. Take a seat.

Jardan launches new ‘Bandy’ range of stools

08 September 2011, 21.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

Selectism - bandy-side-table-high-bottle

It’s clear by now that we quite like Jardan. We’ll let Curated do the talking.

Melbourne-based furniture house Jardan recently debuted the Bandy range of stools, which are shown also as a base for small tables. The Bandy collection was inspired by the abstract silhouette of hand-crafted ceramics, with clean polished lines and meticulous timber craftsmanship.”

Gabriel Hargrove Saddle Stool

02 May 2011, 19.00 | Posted in Furniture | 1 comment »

Gabriel Hargrove Saddle Stool

Not the first saddle stool, nor the last. Gabriel Hargive puts together this three-legger. “Town Stool is a modern piece of furniture inspired by well worn bicycle saddles, realized here in wood. The saddle and legs of this stool are made from ash, the legs are ebonized and the seat is stained in dark pecan. The saddle is sprung, like the leather saddles of many town bikes.” Loving the wood formed saddle on this. Priced at US$700.

Christiana Waterson’s “The Bloom Series”

10 March 2010, 19.20 | Posted in Design, Furniture | No comments »

curated mag - Christiana Waterson's "The Bloom Series"

Australian designer Christiana Waterson includes two very useful bits in her “Bloom Series” – a stool and a magazine rack. Both are pretty much household basics (assuming, like me, you live in a small flat overrun with old magazines). The related ornaments are not quite as good as the two pieces pictured above, but rely on the same geometric base of inspiration.

If the sculptural quality is not spot on, the functionality is A+. (via Contemporist).

CuldeSac “Welding Wood”

selectism - CuldeSac Welding Wood

Given a sincere love for turned wood, CuldeSac’s contemporary appropriation of lathe turning, joinery and steam bending techniques have immediate appeal. The Spanish design agency treats the traditional methods with great respect, managing as well to incorporate a non-traditional line to the legs. Titled “Welding Wood,” the line is limited to stools and a low table. Simple, handsome furniture. (via Contemporist).

Emiliano Godoy’s Flex Collection

04 December 2009, 16.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

curated mag - Emiliano Godoy's Flex Collection

Designed for Mexico City-based Pirwi, the Flex Collection is built through the creation of a twisted plywood formed mesh. The pieces are delicate, yet structurally very strong. The resulting stool, bench, and coffee table maintain undulating lines and patterns that support seats and (in the case of the new coffee table) a glass top. The table is the gem, with slender recessed legs that magnify the overall light feel.

The Flex Collection comes from the mind of Emiliano Godoy. The bench and stool can be viewed after the jump. (via Contemporist and Curated).

Pebble Collection for De Vorm

06 October 2009, 18.55 | Posted in Design, Furniture | No comments »

curated mag - Pebble Collection for Devorm

The smooth roundness of sea tumbled pebbles provide the impetus for Benjamin Hubert’s Pebble Collection. Constructed of rotational molded seat and oak legs. The legs fit into the chair by a press fit connection – essentially a tenon – thus fusing traditional chair making and modern technology. Given the construction, the chairs can easily be disassembled for storage and shipping. In all, the Pebble Collection consists of chair, stool and bar stool.

Hubert is a graduate of Loughborough University with a focus on Industrial Design and Technology. His designs are exhibited and produced around the globe. The Pebble Collection is manufactured by Dutch firm De Vorm. (via Daily Icon).
