Norway’s SWIMS gets a step up the luxury ladder with a small collaborative galosh for Armani’s Autumn 2012 collection. The photography tells the story: the SWIMS special make-up boot in all black complements the autumn collection. Various runway shots help show the boot in action. Socks are fun 75-percent of the time, but when the heavy summer heat hits, nothing feels better than slipping your bare feet into a pair of light, breathable shoes. Sure, by the end of the day shoes with no socks get rather clammy, but there’s talcum powder and/or Febreeze for that. Please don’t throw hot oil in our faces for saying this, but we sometimes get a touch envious of Crocs. Not their bulbous gaudy appearance, mind you, but the utter lightness and comfort they appear to afford he legions of nurses and ten-year-olds who wear them religiously. These loafers from SWIMS, a company that specializes in fancy galoshes, seem to answer our desires.

Made of rubber with an anti-bacterial mesh lining, these are a “water-proof spin on the classic loafer … just as perfect for wading in the water as for watering plants in the garden.” Some of the colorways are just as intense as Crocs, and only a handful seem suitable for wearing out to dinner, but we are definitely intrigued.

SWIMS may be known to most for their galoshes. Yes, they do those water resistant shoe wraps better than most. But you may not be aware that they also translate that water resistance to their duffle bags. Available in a few colorways, the orange being our favorite, SWIMS make their products usable but highly functional under the most rainy of circumstances.  Available this Spring 2012.

SWIMS is moving along with some fresh takes on water friendly footwear.  SWIMS takes the classic galosh and brings modern footwear take to them by adding a ventilated footbed that keeps the footbed dry and walkable. Models vary from the tassel loafer (shown above) to their urban hiker, “The Matteo” and  the classic trainer form of their “Fabio” shoe. Worth a look.

When it comes to the umbrella market, the tech does the talking, unless the product is worked to provide something unique on the design side. These Swims self-opening umbrellas offer the latter with a collection of colored handles to complement your briefcase, bag, or shoes. The self -opening aspect is a technical one, but we prefer the look of the handles. (oki-ni)

The word "galoshes" was introduced to me via the respected Seasame Street TV series back as a child and quickly became a sort of laughing term. Who actually uses the word galoshes? T

he English and SWIMS of Norway definitely carry the tradition. SWIMS has take then age old galosh and transformed it into cool again with two very well deisgned models for me, the "Mobster" high top and "Classic" low. The idea is a pretty simple one and any weathered cyclist will be familiar with them. A pair of SWIMS galoshes wrap around the outside of your shoe giving them the wtaerproof protection they need. This is an ideal solution  for commuters that cycle and/or walk often in rainy conditions. We all know the consequences of a rain soaked leather shoe, so why not drop a few hundo on some protection and keep those wingtips wearable for another few years?
