The Beatles "Summer 1968" Photography by Tom Murray

British photographer, Tom Murray spent some time with The Beatles in the summer of 1968 and photographed would would eventually become their last group publicity shoot together as a band. 30 years on, Murray has pulled the original photography from a drawer and is making them available in print form for the first time. More than 23 different The Beatles photographs from Murray’s original shoot are now up for purchase on RPP.

Each image is available in 20 x 24 inch format or as archival pigment prints.

art school ads Selectism | Around the Web

01. You Say You Want a Devolution?

“For most of the last century, America’s cultural landscape—its fashion, art, music, design, entertainment—changed dramatically every 20 years or so. But these days, even as technological and scientific leaps have continued to revolutionize life, popular style has been stuck on repeat, consuming the past instead of creating the new.” (vanityfair)

02. Art-School Ads Brilliantly Parody Anti-Drug PSAs

“If art is your drug of choice, you’ll appreciate these wonderful print ads from Team Detroit for that city’s College for Creative Studies. Each parodies the kind of overwrought, family-in-crisis anti-drug PSAs that we’re all so familiar with. The spoofs work so well, of course, because many parents do see art as an unhealthy choice, an addiction liable to lead their offspring to nothing but starvation and despair. The tagline is: “Talk to your kids about art school.” Shame there isn’t one that reads, “I learned it by watching you, OK?!” A bunch more after the jump. ” (adweek)

03. Madaus: Fart

Here’s a nice print campaign from Madaus, a medicine helping people with their ‘gas’ problems. (creativecriminals)

04. An Apple Gift for the Holidays: Free Beatles (Book) on iTunes

More than a year after the Beatles came to iTunes, Apple’s digital store remains the only place you can legally download the band’s music. And now, if you want some Beatles but don’t want to pay for it, Apple can help you there, too: The company is giving away a free Beatles e-book. “Yellow Submarine” is just what it sounds like — an illustrated version of the band’s 1968 movie, which is both trippy and kid-friendly (so British!). The book was first published in 2004, but the new version features interactive goodies like song samples and bits from the animated movie. (allthingsd)

Selectism - The Beatles Stereo Mixes USB Apple

We mentioned The Beatles USB Apple a while back in the roundup, but here’s a complete look at the full packaging for the Apple. For those who refuse to buy CDs, this is the only authorized digital release of The Beatles Stereo Mixes in remastered form. You’ll get the track in FLAC (major nerd format which I happen to use) and your favorite 320k MP3s. Now, the package is basically sold out in the USA, but check around and you may be able to dig one up internationally. It comes (sold) out December 8th.

Selectism - Comme des Garçons The Beatles Collection T-Shirts

How could we not fill our CdG quota for the month with their The Beatles Collection. I wish I could have been inside Apple Corp. offices when this deal went through (almost as cool as having been in the Henson offices when Supreme came calling). Well, the collection’s standouts to most are the bags and button down shirt, but this is rock music, so I’ll go for the t-shirts. Priced on some next level plane of 115$US per t-shirt – hey, it’s CdG. (dsm)

The Beatles say Hello, Hello to Comme des Garcons

Selectism - the-beatles-comme-des-garcon

WWD reports in with some very interesting news combining (arguably) the biggest band from England with Japan’s CdG line. What’s interesting about the collaboration is how reluctant Apple Corp, rights holders for The Beatles, have been about licensing out the name for anything other than music related products. “Comme des Garcons and Apple Corps Ltd. – the London-based company that manages the legacy and musical catalog of the British band – are teaming up to launch a new collection of bags under The Beatles/Comme des Garcons label, with the first styles slated to debut mid-November at Dover Street Market, Kawakubo’s multi-brand emporium in London, and Gyre in Tokyo, with additional distribution to follow…”
