A Generic Man classic, the Wingman has been given a revamp by Rei Kawakubo’s iconic brand, resulting in a style that stays true to The Generic Man’s effortless take on luxury while adding the avant garde twist that has made Comme des Garçons SHIRT a favorite among fashion insiders.”

Creative Director of Perfecto Brand by Schott, Greg Chapman, was in LA for a few days taking a break from the freezing New York weather and getting to the Vegas Shows. While there, he had lunch Little Doms and discussed the jacket he named after long-time friend, Creative Director of Generic Man/Generic Surplus, Kevin Carney, who also happens to have named the Generic Man staple Chapman after Greg. The duo were interviewed by Astri Barbala.

The Generic Man mainline drops two new looks for Spring 2011. The Chapman and Wingman are both made in Portugal (hello) and feature Vibram shoes for proper urban treading. Made from Italian leather, both models feature strong detailing and finishing that puts them high up on our buying lists. They’re beautiful and accessible through many retailers.

Generic Surplus has sent over looks at their forthcoming sneakers and deck inspired shoes for  Comme des Garcons SHIRT Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Two GS shoes were chosen:  the Mid Deck boat shoe and the Hunting Lo sneaker. Simple edits were made on both models to compliment the SHIRT collection which is inspired by a nautical look. Those changes are as subtle as enhancements on the eyelets and laces. While not out of the ordinary, they do make them unique in the GS offering.

The Mid Deck comes in a navy canvas while the Hunting Lo is a monotone canvas/suede combination in natural and navy – both with gumsoles.

Four years on and The Generic Man continues to produce fine footwear that stays in your wardrobe for seasons. Today, they announce the launch of a fine shoe and wine celebrating the past four years. With the help of Saarloos and Sons Vineyard in Los Olivios, CA, Generic Man has packaged together a wine and shoe set that is fairly limited – especially to the public. 40 pairs of shoes are being produced across their Naval and Chapman models. Both come in wine burgundy leather.

“For the wine, eleven cases of a well blended red, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot were then produced for the project.”

Only 12 of these anniversary packages will be available to the public. They are for purchase for $425 through Mohawk General Store.

Ah yes, The Generic Man returns with a collection slightly larger than past collection. The West Coast based brand stands proud with it’s old silhouettes by mixing up the finish and color while retaining some carryover SKU’s including the Savant, Tuxman,  Academy, and the Tuxman, of course. “All generic man footwear is crafted using the finest Italian materials, handmade in Portugal.” Dig through these photo and look for more colors and styles once they land in stores.
