Epaulet Ashland Ikat Tie

ashland ikat tie 01 Epaulet Ashland Ikat Tie

Epaulet Ashland Ikat tie, a nice alternative to the current stream of chambray and knitted models doing the rounds. Using a traditional dyeing technique popular for centuries in many different cultures, the combination of colours is just on the right side of bold. The guys describe this as “slim without being “skinny” or trendy.” We can get with that. (Epaulet)

Nick Bronson Knitted Tie

Selectism - nick-bronson-knitted-tie-01

We’re known fans of the knitted tie, so here’s one for the fellows who may not have the hundred quid to drop on a Charvet or Drakes tie. £40 price tag aside, it’s also a very handsome piece of neckwear – other folks might call it preppy. So that’s what we’re going to call it as well. (Liberty)

Drakes Knitted Tie

Selectism - drakes-knitted-tie-01

On the rare occasion we do get suited and booted, it’s a knitted tie that’ll grace our necks. Don’t ask why, that’s just the way it is. So it was our right, actually, our duty to flag these up. Perfect for those times when you have to smarten up a tad. Also perfect for those times when you imitate that steezy Italian fellow you saw on a Tommy Ton roundup. (CHCM)

The Blind Barber, New York City’s only combination  barbershop and vintage cocktail parlor, has collaborated with C. Chauchat, East Village-based handcrafted accessory brand, on a limited-edition tie. The inspiration comes from the trusted heather grey sweatshirt, with a desire to mimic the texture fulfilled via use of hand dyed swiss cotton voile. Some 90s influenced stripes are added for fun.

The C. Chauchat for Blind Barber tie is available beginning June 22nd exclusively at the C. Chauchat website or at The Blind Barber  for $160.

Nikolai Rose Nubbed Necktie

Selectism - nikolai-rose-tie-01

If there’s one thing we’ve noticed, it’s that there’s always a considered ‘I wouldn’t normally wear this’ audience for just about every item of clothing in menswear. Catering to this audience this time is Nikolai Rose, who’s made this nubbed tie. Essentially it’s a tie for people who don’t like ties. (Opening Ceremony)

Charvet Knitted Tie

Selectism - charvet-knitted-tie-01

While we look at the whole tie spectrum, we’re strictly knitted tie fellows. We dip in and out with other tie styles, we might even do a Schwarzenegger and have a couple of other styles on the side, but we always come back to the knitted tie. Which is why we’re fans of this Charvet number. Several colours have fell in at Mr Porter, but we’re fans of the forest green version – it’s got that ‘goes with denim, washed denim and chinos’ versatility that we’re looking for. (Mr Porter)

Drakes Knitted Tie

Selectism - drakes-knitted-tie-01

Obvious pick alert! We were looking for a great knitted tie and Drakes was the first thing that popped into our heads, so we’ve decided to share it with everyone. We don’t wear ties everyday, so why not spend a little more and get a great accessory? And it comes in at under £100 (just) so it’s not outside the realms of affordability. (Drakes)

The line follows on the traditions of Ben Sherman (that ever present back-of-the-collar button, for example) and adds jackets, trousers, and a sampling of bow ties. All shirting is produced with Italian milled fabrics… and the denim chino is sourced from Japan.

Our Legacy Knitted Ties

selectism - our-legacy-wool-ties-01

While we’re not fans of vintage stores in general – musty smells, small sizes and overpricing aren’t our favourite things -  they’ve always been best for knitted ties. The ones on the high street are usually cheaply made and the high end ones are a little too highly priced for an item we’d rarely wear, so Our Legacy’s version are the perfect medium. Just don’t wear these with a tie clip – despite what you’ve seen people do, they’re all but guaranteed to eventually bobble the tie. (Tres Bien)

Burberry Prorsum Floral Tie

burberry prorsum floral tie Burberry Prorsum Floral Tie

While we know bow ties are the neck accessory of choice at the moment, we still love a good old fashioned tie. Ties tend to come in either underdone or over-embellished forms, but Burberry’s tie straddles between the two. While it is a floral pattern (which can get a little too loud sometimes) the subdued colouring calms it down a little and makes it an easy way of putting the finishing touches on an outfit. Get it from Matches.
