Thom Browne Tie for Fashion Night Out Tokyo

This week Tokyo celebrates Fashion Night Out. For the occasion many international designers came out, many special events were held and the city was just all around in a fashion mood, not that Tokyo needs any more of that.

New York designer Thom Browne has released a limited edition tie for the occasion. It comes in his classic light grey suit fabric and of course with the tricolor branding. An instant classic. Mathieu from Materialiste picked one up and also modeled it here above.

The Hill-Side Pointed Neckties

The Hill-Side Pointed Neckties

We like to imagine there’s a huge bin somewhere containing all the tie points that have gone out of favour of late. We don’t have a problem with the straight edged variety but the introduction of The Hill-Side neckwear “now with a point!” definitely warrants a mention. We all know the brand has a reputation for great modern ties so expect much the same in terms of pattern and fabric – chambray, plaid and gingham all present. However now you have the option of an added point and who are we argue with a new variation on one of our favourite lines.

More looks after the click.

Gitman Vintage Donegal Tie

You know what we’re not crazy about? The whole ‘wear a tie with the top button undone’ thing. It’s faux nonchalance, much like tying a jumper over your shoulders or leaving your bowtie undone but around the neck. Just do up your top button, it won’t hurt. As Marlo would say, either do it or don’t. (End)

Was everyone at Pitti? Pretty much. The Hill-side showcased some of their wares at the show and it’s a floral affair. Floral ties? Check. Bandanas? Check. More wardrobe enhancing accessories than you can shake a stick at? checkmate. Take a leap to see it for yourself.

Traditionalists, look away now. In fact if you’re a traditionalist we’re shocked you even come here, you’re probably here for the book and magazine picks. Either way, we like these Harris tweed ties 3939 did with Sson. We’re not even fussy on which ones, they all look prettay good. (3939)

Blackbird Warm Grey Tie

selectism - Blackbird Warm Grey Tie

A famous man once said that ties were the spice rack of the wardrobe. Actually, no one said that, but we think it fits. What do we mean by that statement? Basically you should have an incredibly varied tie selection, like you would a varied spice rack. That way you can add whatever flavour you want to your outfit. While we probably extended that metaphor for longer than it should’ve been stretched, our basic point is that you need a big variety of ties and not just the crazy types. (Blackbird)

Bromleys Knitted Tie

Selectism - bromleys-knitted-tie-01

The knitted tie hunt continues on with this one we found. Silk ties are great and all but there’s something a little too spiffy about them for us to wear on a daily basis. And if you like being spiffy, cool, but that’s not what we’re into. This knitted tie is from Bromleys, it’s made in the UK and it looks gosh darn good. What more can we say? (Classic Wardrobe)

Paul Smith Knitted Silk Tie

Is it time for another fake tie revival? We usually hear of one every couple years or so, so we’re wondering whether it’s reached that time yet. The thing with ties is that, like trainers, people never stop wearing, they just don’t wear them as often. Anyhoo, this tie is pretty nice, it’ll be perfect for all the sprezzy fellas out there. Word is getting around quick regarding General Knot & Co.’s collection of salvage made men’s neck and bowties. Putting aside inspiration, this New York based company – which fabricates their ties in NYC and Vermont – uses found and vintage fabrics to make their neckwear. While they’re not first to the street with this concept, they clearly have a strong eye for choosing fabrics.

The Hill-Side Spring 2011 Preview

The Hill-Side released this short video preview of their upcoming collection and we’ve gotta say, it looks pretty good. We would make a joke, but people didn’t react very well the last time we did that in a Hill-Side post.
