Timo Weiland Autumn 2012 Collection

TimoWeiland01 Timo Weiland Autumn 2012 Collection
The vision of design duo Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, the Timo Weiland Autumn 2012 collection offers a focused bit of nostalgia, coming from a point in the past when “downtown was a true haven for artists, rock and hip-hop musicians making ends meet … Timo and Alan delved into New York City, New Wave nostalgia in a pre-rave post-punk era to develop a darker collection of luxe-grunge looks.” Those days are certainly long-gone, but definitely worth using as a reference point. Here, that past shines through in silhouettes unencumbered by a specific decade (hinting at thrifted wares; staple of the starving artist) and the understated bravado of some of the prints.

Using the litmus test of “would Sam Shepard have worn it?” this collection scored about 50-percent, for whatever that is worth to you.

A look at the Timo Weiland Spring 2012 runway show from New York Fashion Week.

“Showing in a runway format for the first time since their launch in Spring 2010, the collection expressed a lightness through the inspired imaginings of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s enclave of artists and friends when he lived in Hawaii later in his life. A city by the sea theme could be found in the sheer and lightweight pleated dresses paired with cotton utility jackets in the women’s collection and varsity jackets, floral shirts, and color blocking that referenced scuba gear in the men’s.”

Selectism - timo-weiland-windbreaker-01

After a tee marathon lately, we’ve unwittingly gone jacket mad this morning. Don’t ask us why, just bask in the jacket-y goodness we’re dishing out today. As we’ve demonstrated on many an occasion, we have a fondness for the patterns. We even remember the dark days when folks accused us of jumping the shark because of said fondness. Bad times. Anyhoo, now that menswear’s gone pattern mad this looks rather chilled out – and we no longer look like the crazed man on the street yelling about impending doom. (Forward)

Selectism - Timo Weiland Asymmetric Militia Coat in Black

A long coat for those evening affairs from Timo Weiland’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The asymmetric shape of the jacket standout when places against the right trousers. Otherwise the jacket remains traditional in nature with a two button finish and front pockets. FF has them.

Selectism - Timo Weiland Autumn 2010 Looks

Timo Weiland is all about the “art of dressing” for Autumn 2010. “Co-designers Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein envelop themselves in their homespun, epic tale of eras colliding; the Age of Innocence meets Gangs of New York. The dichotomy of the masculine and the feminine, often captured throughout the history of cinema, is another great source of inspiration for the design duo that seeks to dress modern day dandies, male and female alike.”

Selectism - Timo Weiland Menswear Autumn 2009

R29 gives us a preview of the forthcoming Timo Weiland menswear line for Spring 2010. “Timo Weiland, who makes quirky-cool neckwear that boys and girls alike can wear, is expanding into ready-to-wear this fall with partner Alan Eckstein. Yesterday, we had the privilege of viewing his complete menswear line for fall … which was full of the staples of good dressing (blazers, light suits, trenches, tees, cardigans), amped up with a dose of the unexpected (a perforated leather jacket in delicious camel, poppy red pin-tucked shorts with bib detailing).”
