Norfolk Jacket by Free & Easy’s Rugged Museum

norfolk fe jacket 01 Norfolk Jacket by Free & Easys Rugged Museum

There’s nothing like a Norfolk Jacket to make you feel like an extra from a BBC period drama.

Worn by hunters, Princes, Rifle Corps volunteers and nineteenth century cyclists, it still remains the ultimate belted blazer. Strangely though, for something which can feel very costume-y, as long as you steer clear of the knickerbockers it’s a rather easy jacket to wear. This one from Free & Easy’s Rugged museum shop is a particularly nice example. Elbow patches, football buttons, chin strap and pleated pockets. Edward VII would be proud.

Brass Shoe Repair in Tokyo

brass shoe repair tokyo 4 Brass Shoe Repair in Tokyo

A little heritage porn for you all. ACL with the help of Red Wing Japan “discovered” one of the finest looking shoe repair joints in Tokyo. “There’s a shoe repair place called Brass in Tokyo like no other I have ever been to. The guys from Red Wing Japan took me there last time I was in country. Often it’s those moments — like when I was first introduced to Brass in person — that make me realize the Japanese can still do ‘Americana’ better than Americans. I could easily see a place like Brass in Portland or Brooklyn or L.A., but I doubt it would have the customer base to actually survive. Maybe I’m wrong though.”

Tokyo Bike Pop-Up at London’s Old Spitalfields Market

selectism - Tokyo Bike Pop-Up at London's Old Spitalfields Market

DesignBoom has shared images of Tokyo Bike’s summer pop-up space in London. Located at Old Spitalfields Market, the space follows the minimal approach seen on the company’s bicycles. The bikes themselves are a range – fixed to casual city bikes – and are built of cr-mo steel.

We’re still as excited as ever to see bike brands push further into (slightly) more innovative retail spaces.

Selectism - Denham Tokyo Store Opening

Amsterdam’s Denham opens doors on their Tokyo shop this weekend. “Opening to the public on June 4th, DENHAM’s stand-alone To- kyo store represents the second dedicated retail presentation following the successful opening of the label’s Amsterdam loca- tion. The new store’s Daikanyama address is perfectly suited for DENHAM’s distinct design ethic and product-culture. The district is home to Japanese denim temples Okura and Hollywood Ranch Market as well as newer concepts in modern utility such as Nan- amica and respected international brands like Paul Smith.”

M Tokyo Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

15 February 2010, 21.00 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

Selectism - M Tokyo Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Check out these Spring 2010 looks from one of the lines we have our eyes on for 2010, Tokyo’s M. “Designed in Japan by keen mountaineer Mitsuo, very little is known about this label. Available in just a handful of select retailers worldwide, ‘M’ is manufactured using traditional techniques in a small workshop in Japan. Natural dyed cotton is washed in the rivers by the workshop and dried under the sun on the riverbeds before being put into production; this ancient Japanese tradition is used by very few designers today. As well as their beautiful design and construction, garments have an element of purpose to them; the SS10 collection feels just right for a trek in the foothills but equally appropriate for the city too, with integrated backpacks on shirts, heavy cotton shorts and jackets forming the core of the collection.” (coggles)
