Thomas Meyerhoffer Surfboards

meyerhoffer surfboard front Thomas Meyerhoffer Surfboards

For the last five years, Thomas Meyerhoffer has been tinkering with a new design for surfboards. The hourglass shape melds the stability of a longboard with the quickness of a shortboard. This makes the ride a little easier on the novice or recreational surfer.

Outside of surfing, Meyerhoffer has developed product for Apple, Porsche, and Sony Ericsson. (via DB).

buriki book front Buriki: Japanese Tin Toys From the Golden Age of the American Automobile

Joe Earle’s Buriki Buriki: Japanese Tin Toys From the Golden Age of the American Automobile is a comprehensive tour of The Toku Tanaka Collection of toys. After WWII, when international trade for Japan resumed, talented toy makers took American cars as inspiration for a fruitful new line of product. The book chronicles all the cars and vehicles made in Japan. A great snap shot of an industry and a period of both American and Japanese ingenuity.

Out from Yale University Press.

Available now through Amazon Buriki: Japanese Tin Toys From the Golden Age of the American Automobile.

Paul Smith 1:6 Model Chair

paul smith model chair Paul Smith 1:6 Model Chair

As much as we love Paul Smith, we don’t support everything he does. Take this minature chair for instance. Modelled from Arne Jacobsen’s ‘Egg’, the chair was made using 3-D scanning and uses Paul Smith fabric. Our main problem with this is that it costs £348 ($529), which is on par with what most people spend on their actual furniture. If you’ve got so much money that you can afford to spend this amount on toys, then get it from Paul Smith’s store.

fendi bearbricks - selectism

The Fendi window decorations around the globe are changing this week and will be displaying the new Bearbrick setup. If you thought a 1000% Bearbrick was big, than wait what Fendi has ready for you – not sure if the official name is a 6000% Bearbrick, but that best describes the size of the toys.

For all the collectors out there Medicom also made some 400% Fendi Bearbricks and a 100% box set. Since the Bearbricks have been made to celebrate the most famous Fendi bag and its 10th anniversary, there are 10 Bearbricks in the box set each with a season printed on the back. Pics via Secretbase.

HOT WHEELS 40th Anniversary Diamond-Encrusted Car

Selectism - Hot Wheels Diamon Encrusted Car 40th Anniversary

If you grew up in North America in the last half century you probably owned a gang of them. Hot Wheels cars. 1:64 scale models of your favorite automobiles. As a youngster myself, I recall owning the Dukes of Hazzard special, a mini of my father’s 69 Mustang Mach 1, and even a Vette or two. We did everything from race, to re-paint, to simply demolishing them in any manner possible. You can do that with Hot Wheels. Their pricepoint was low enough to keep your mom re-stocking you for years.

Now, I highly doubt that Mattel, the parent company who owns the Hot Wheels brand will want you to do the same with their 40th Anniversary Diamond Encrusted Car, unveiled at this season’s NY Toy Fair.

Designed in collaboration with Jason of Beverly Hills and racking in at around 140k$US, this one of a kind mini car boasts 2700 diamonds, 18 karat gold casting, red rubies for taillights, black diamonds in the engine, and 40 individual white diamonds signifying its 40 year legacy… they probably would have tossed on some more but I think they ran out of room. Hell, its only 1:64 scale!

A boyhood dream come true.
