Rick Owens Ankle Boot

Selectism - rick-owens-ankle-boot-01

Hey you! Yes, you. We know you’re thinking ‘I’d never wear anything by Rick Owens, it’s gothninja steeze’. Take a step back, broaden those horizons and look at these trainers. We know it’s not cool to like Rick Owen’s footwear anymore – it’s all about Wolverine boots, Pitti Uomo street style and aping 1920’s train drivers – but they still look cool. And, If you’re worried about not looking sufficiently nu-workwear, you could always roll up your chinos to show off the entire shoe. (Farfetch)

Car Shoe Suede Trainers

Selectism - car-shoe-grey-trainers-01

You know Car shoe right? They make those shoes that are usually called all kinds of sprezzy but actually make you look like a sleazy Italian pick up merchant. Well they’ve done these trainers that are actually pretty good looking. As we’re sure you know, grey trainers pretty much go with every colour under the sun, so they make a nice change of pace from your fancy shoes. (Matches)

Comme Des Garcons for Springcourt Trainers

Selectism - springcourt-comme-des-garcons-trainers-01

As part of their ongoing collab-fest, CDG have teamed up with Springcourt on these limited edition trainers. Actually, it’s more of a three way thing, seeing as it’s part of their beatles collection. It’s nice that their collabs are so well thought out (If you didn’t know, Lennon was quite the fan of springcourts, even wearing them to his wedding). As for the shoe itself? Depends on how much you like apples. (Colette)

Adam Kimmel Denim Trainers

Selectism - adam-kimmel-denim-trainers-01

Coming with more (los) heat from Adam Kimmel. We’re all about a good pair of chukka’s, mainly because we like reciting Clipse lyrics. We’re starting to feel like we’re letting the side down with all these casual footwear choices – we are supposed to be the sharp looking brother to High Snob after all. Ah well, can’t be sharp everyday. (Nitty Gritty)

Gourmet ‘Sedici L’ Trainers

Selectism - gourmet-sedici-01

We’re pretty sure no one’s shocked by Gourmet popping up on SL now, or at least we’ll avoid accusations of being all over the place. There is a method to this madness. We’ve always thought a high top was just a high top whether it came from Lanvin or Gourmet. In fact, you could argue that Lanvin have been slacking in their high top macking over the last few seasons. Gourmet? Not so much. (Oki-Ni)

Dries Van Noten Panelled Trainers

Selectism - dries-van-noten-trainer-01

We’re all about the footwear this morning. This time it’s a more casual pair of trainers from Dries. It’s more of a wardrobe-improver than a game-changer but it looks good – and that’s all we want from a trainer. It is Dries Van Noten though, so expect the price tag to reflect that. You’ve been warned. (Farfetch)

Nike Zoom Match Classic

02 March 2011, 15.30 | Posted in Sneakers | 1 comment »

Selectism - nike-zoom-match-classic-01In our ongoing attempts to wean ourselves off Springcourts explore other options, we’ve taken a look at these Nike Zoom Match Classics. They’re nice and minimal, just the way we like ‘em – although the green used doesn’t really mesh with the cream colour of the shoe. That aside, we can’t fault them. Give your feet a rest and put away the shoes for a bit. You can be all sprezzywhatever another day. (Crooked Tongues)

Carol Christian Poell Rubber Dipped Trainer

20 January 2011, 12.13 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - carol-christian-poell-trainers-01

First off, we’re not recommending this as a piece for everyday (or any day) wear. But it does looks very interesting, albeit in the ‘is fashion art?’ way as opposed to wearing it way. As the name suggests, they’ve been dipped in rubber to give them the melted effect you see above. We’re not sure whether these would hold up to daily wear but it does make for some great (and expensive) home decoration. (Farfetch)

Lanvin Camouflage Print Trainers

Selectism - lanvin-camo-trainers-01

Let’s be honest, no one’s getting this as a Christmas gift for someone else (and if you are then you must be singing this song as well). So treat yourself this December with these Lanvin high tops. They’ve had a couple of off-seasons when it comes to footwear but it looks like Lanvin have found their footing again (geddit?) with creations like this one. [Farfetch]

First Look | Vera Shoes

Selectism - vera-shoes-01

We know it’s hard to do, but imagine it’s hot right now. And not in the Paris Hilton sense either. Done that? Good. Now imagine these Vera shoes on your feet.  They feel good don’t they? They’re made by Neil Morris, the man who founded Drooghi, and the styles are perfect for summer – lace up espadrilles, mesh slip ons, perforated suede – that sort of thing. Look for them to hit your favourite stores, including the likes of Oi Polloi, next summer.
