Martell & Pinell Pinell Trunk

Selectism - martell-pinell-01

The house of Martell teamed up with Frédéric Pinel to create this handsome looking trunk. Before we go on, can we say how great it must be to be part of the House of Martell? In fact, can we start calling this the House of Selectism? It’s so much classier than Selectism towers or Selectism HQ. And yeah, this trunk is filled with glasses, ashtrays, cire trudon candles, cigar cutters and enough drink to please any drink connoisseur/alocholic. (Another something)

Nythan James 72 Hour Trunk Backpack

Nythan James has a vision for a trunk series. He posts this idea online and is quickly contacted by a trunk maker in N.Y.C. who is willing to give him a hand. What we have here is a one-off test/proto/result of that conversation. It’s a trunk with some straps to make the carry even easier. While it may not look like the most comfortable thing, you can sure pack it heavy.

The Cube Fontaine By Claire Fontaine

Selectism - The Cube Fontaine By Claire Fontaine

One of our editors pointed me at something special in the Colette store, but my eyes immediately were drawn to this Cube Fontaine by Claire Fontaine. Something about the surfaces of this cube looks difficult to decipher. “The Cube Fontaine by artist Claire Fontaine is a hijacking of the famous Rubiks cube. The 6 sides of color are replaced by views of the surface of the sea. Manipulating it gives unique and contradictory images. This poetic object mixes the solid of the cube and the liquid of water while discreetly evoking ecological disasters that surround us.”

The Hansen Family Trunk

Selectism - The Hansen Family Trunk

Gesa Hansen, the Scandinavian designer behind the very warm The Hansen Family line of fine oak wood furniture, takes her sourcing seriously. Their “Homegrown” theme for business extends into the natural oak resources which they harvest from local forests. Growing up in a family of carpenters and designers has surly helped as well. Nothing works in your favor more than a solid family “tree” of support. For now, we look at her “trunk” – a simply yet beautiful two box construction which splits open to reveal dresser drawers, cupboard shelving, and a unique rack like hanger which finishes off the trunk beautifully.

Fendi Trunk Desk with Roll-out Chair

nigo fendi trunk front Fendi Trunk Desk with Roll out Chair

This is a banger. We could have only pulled this from Nigo, the headmaster of Japan’s The Bathing Ape clothing line. He recently blogged about visiting the Fendi factory and discovering this very baller Fendi trunk that doubles as a desk. What is most fascinating is the rollout safebox in the middle of the trunk that doubles as a chair. That’s serious.

Goyard Trunk for Visionaire Magazine 50

Selectism - Goyard Trunk for Visionaire Magazine 50

Visionaire Magazine is offering up a special packaging for their 50th issue: a Goyard trunk loaded to the gills with those first 50 Visionaire issues OR a Goyard trunk loaded to the gills with 10 sets of those 50 issues! Price? Massive! 50k$US or 150k$US depending if you want read copies or want to hoard copies. WSJ’s Eva Ramirez offers some thoughts on the pricepoints. "The lofty price tag for a collection of "magazines" is the result of multiple factors, including Visionaire’s increasing collectability, as well as trends in the luxury goods market, which continues to hit ever-higher price points… Last December, the entire run, from 1–53, was purchased anonymously for $65,000."

Clearly Visionaire Magazine and Goyard up the ante for all future collaborations to come. This is one hell of a set.
