Umit Benan’s got people now. What we mean by that is that Umit Benan looks like he has a following and that people, for lack of a better or more emo phrase, get him. The war of the crewnecks is one that’s still raging around these menswear streets, here’s another late entry into the warzone. We know authentically made jumpers have their place but we’re not wearing some itchy jumper for the sake of ‘realness’. We prefer the Rick Ross-esque approach to authenticity. (The Corner)

For Autumn 2011, the collection spins a fresh take on classic styling of Italian fashion, but as usual, makes it his own. The short grey waistcoat above is on point. (gq)

This cashmere hoodie from the Umit Benan Autumn 2010 collection is a bit of a dream. Take that form which many found indecent and add the pure softness of the cashmere and you turn this “sweater” into something which is publicly appropriate (in the eyes of the naysayers). We asked for some more looks from Umit Benan’s Spring 2011 collection and we received them. The Turkish born designer seems to be hitting closer to home with his Spring presentation. As Dazed puts it, “Comfy chocolate brown double-breasted jackets and collarless shirts in deep hues of navy were just a few of the highlights. The salvar baggy trouser is, admittedly, an acquired taste but they fitted of course in with the Turkish theme. Loose and comfortable, but with elements of elegance, Umit Benan have adjusted a national sartorial heritage to the rest of the world.”

You know the sort of thing that almost doesn’t seem like a bad idea? This is it. These striped overalls are as attractive as striped overalls made from dress shirt materials could be, but they’re still not attractive enough to actually consider wearing. Worth a look though, if only for wondering how anyone would get away with wearing it. (Browns)

Following up on the runway video we presented a while back, we can now show you official looks from the collection via the brand’s “Retired Rockers” inspired collection for Autumn 2010 by Umit Benan. “The Retired Rockers inspiring the F/W 2010-2011 collection are a group of musicians who made music history in the 1970s and ‘80s, once young and wild kids with no direction beyond rousing an entire generation to a blaring rock beat. Umit Benan presents his vision of these old rockers – his rockers – imagining a rock band à la Rolling Stones that gets together with a few old buddies such as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and with producer Ahmet Ertegun (the man who discovered them and who, not coincidentally, shares the designer’s Turkish roots).”
