We’ve mentioned our love of the Nike x Undercover Gyakusou collection over on our brother site Highsnob with praise reserved for the very best. A collaborative effort between Nike and Jun Takahashi’s Undercover line, Gyakusou very much embodies the spirit of the Takahashi’s design and his love for the sport of running. What makes the collection strong for us is how little fanfare either party gives to this work; Gyakusou flies under the radar while providing a product that elevates itself into a category all its own for the sport.

The campaign for Gyakusou’s fourth collection takes inspiration from “Yin and Yang.” “Takahashi uses this theme to highlight the difference between the Men’s and Women’s collection and male and female runners also placing them in environments that visually represent the essence of yin and yang.” Directed and photographed by Katsuhide Morimoto, the Spring 2012 Gyakusou collection was shot in Oshima (Black Desert) and Nakatajima (White Desert) in Japan.

The collection is available through very select Nike retailers globally.

March 16, 2012 sees the delivery of the first collaborative collection from UNIQLO and Undercover, two very well known Japanese labels that come together for a family style affair, as seen in their lookbook. We take a look at the individual garments in the collection that vary from styles leather jackets, plaid shirts, to straight leg casual trousers. This is a very different collection from the previous UNIQLO work with +J. From Undercover’s side, this collection is simply nothing like their work with Nike on Gyakusou. Saturdays in autumn make trolling time on the nets an easy chore. While visiting the great Firmamant shop online, I discovered this spiked numbers form the Undercover line. With very clean lines that make float the upper very well on a multi-colored sole, the spikes found in the eyelets and heel are a unique feature which should not be confused with the Louboutin’s work.

Some serious excitement will come from this one. The word on the blogs (well Jun Takahashi’s direct) is that Undercover will be working with UNIQLO on a future project collaboration. The word is that it will actually drop this year and run through (at least) 2012. More as we get it.

We’re not fans of phrases like ’shower proof’. It just sounds like faint praise to us. Furthermore, what happens if the shower turns into proper full on rain? Which handily brings us to this showerproof jacket from Undercover, which will keep your body dry during a shower. Your head will get wet though, because it doesn’t have a hood. If you can get over that and the Undercover pricetag, this is the jacket for you. (Browns)

The futuristic, almost “Gorjira” like world of the Spring/Summer 2010 Undercover collection has made waves throughout the blog world and print. Here’s a great casual jacket from Japan’s Undercover. “Black contrasting jacket with clear hood. The top of the jacket is waterproof. The high neck leads into a zip fastening front. Zips also trim the shoulders and long sleeves. The bottom half of the jacket is jersey with pockets on either side just above the hemline that falls to the hips.” (browns)
