London via Amsterdam via Portugal, Under returns for its first Spring/Summer collection. Unfussy quality underwear, attention to detail with thoughtful touches like removable labels and covered buttons. This collection takes inspiration from various eras of Americana so expect extensive use of waffle fabric, long-sleeved undershirts, chambray, and marl jersey. These guys go to lengths to make sure each piece retains its shape and colour wash after wash; goodlooking and durable, a pretty decent combination.

The undergarment arena is one less explored by most men today, usually for one of two reasons. The first has everything to do with no really caring about who or what made their base layer; they prefer to spend their dosh on the exterior, opting for high priced Undercover blazers. Another school have already gone through the motions of discovering which undergarments give them the best support while being invisible on wear (nothing is more annoying than having to fiddle around while on the go).

But like most things, there is always space for fresh exploration.

H&M has recently debuted their new bodywear collection with footballer, David Beckham. On first look, the undergarments look to be a step in the right direction. David Beckham Bodywear for H&M features nine underwear styles for men, as designed by Beckham’s own “in-house” team (we’re wondering if any of the guys that worked on his adidas line had a hand in this one). The focus is of course on the fit and comfort, as well as design and explores briefs, boxers, vests, T-shirts, pajamas and long johns (the latter being a big favorite especially in the winter months). The line hits stores in February 2012 – globally and online. Expect to pay a reasonable $13-$15 in the U.S.A. for briefs and t-shirts.

Beyond the briefs, the collection offers some white t-shirt tops. “‘Worn as outerwear or underwear, the organic mesh cotton pieces are just a delight for all to enjoy’ say Fantastic Man. Cool Hunting’s Karen Day, informs us of a new undergarment line with eco-friendly tendencies. “Launching today, Pact makes wearing eco-friendly underwear all the more friendly. Partnering with famed industrial designer and futurist Yves Behar, the brand refashions how people perceive apparel in the 21st century by considering every aspect of bringing their product to market through a socially conscious lens, starting with the integration of a social aspect into the design itself.” A small portion of each unit sold goes to charity which is a fine way to give back.

Quality lies not only in the visible details but in the touch and feel of a piece of clothing. We’re assuming that Blackbird is not letting us down when they describe Japan’s N. Hoolywood collection of under garments, "Under Summit Wear" as being the best of the best. These are under garments. Not basics, so the idea of spending upwards of $155 for a t-shirt may stop many dead in the tracks but take into consideration that someone clearly believes this is worth every last dollar. Or assume that the gorgeous presentation in stackable boxes may be part of your purchase. Either way, we’re fascinated with N. Hoolywood garments and hope you are as well.

It is incredible seeing Mastermind Japan going into their 11th year and still you will hardly find any goods by the brand that are not black and do not carry the skull and bones logo. The drive to deliver superior quality with a subtle aesthetic just seems to work.
