Uniqlo +J Panelled Cardigan

03 February 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

selectism - uniqlo-+j-panelled-cardigan-01

Here’s another piece from the difficult Sophomore album that was Jil Sander’s SS10 collection. We love our cardigans as much as the next man – maybe even more so – but it was getting hard justifying buying yet another cardy. Unless that cardigan has panelling, therefore making completely different to any other cardigan we have. And, at the risk of sounding like a market trader, at £30 how can you go wrong? (Uniqlo)

Leap for the stars and take a look at a couple more shots.

Uniqlo Club Collar Broadcloth Shirt

27 January 2010, 14.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

selectism - uniqlo-club-collar-broadcloth-shirt

We’ve developed quite the hankering for a club collar over the last six months. While there’s been plenty of places to get your hands on one, we’ve always preferred buying our shirting from places like Uniqlo. It’s easy, simple and gives us more money to spend of knitwear. The fact that it’s a contrast collar only ramps it up in the desirablility stakes. While there’s three colours, the obvious favourite (for us at least)  is the blue colourway. (Uniqlo)

Take the leap to see the other two colourways.

Uniqlo +J Design Trousers

selectism - uniqlo-+j-cargo-pants

Jill Sander’s second collection of pieces for Uniqlo hasn’t received the praise that the first did, with most unable to get their heads around a couple of pieces. If you were to compare it with a musician’s album, it’d be the overlooked follow up to a stand out debut. Despite all that, there are some great pieces to be had and these design trousers are just one of them. Cargo pants are on the brink of a comeback, so why not get them at a snip (£40) and see how they’ll work into your wardrobe. Unlike most Uniqlo trousers, these come with a slight taper – perfect for folks used to the APC straight leg as opposed to the Dickies one. (Uniqlo)

Uniqlo Zip Parka

Now that Uniqlo’s SS10 collection has started dropping in stores, it’s time to take a look at a standout piece. This is a tough sell in January, as it’s the one month where it’s guaranteed you’ll never wear it, but it’s cheap enough (£40) to warrant an impulse buy. There’s also the very real possibility that it’ll be sold out by the time you actually need it – an annoying side effect of selling clothes months before anyone will actually use them. (Uniqlo)

Uniqlo Premium Down Coat

01 December 2009, 14.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - uniqlo-premium-down-coat-02

Every season there’s a Uniqlo piece that tends to take the interwebz by storm. Last season it was the oxford and the vintage chino the season before that. This time it’s set to be their premium down coat.

Down coats are always a tricky affair; it’s very easy to end up channelling the Michellin Man. Uniqlo have got it just right with their deceptively cheap – £50 right now, £70 usually – down coat. There’s more than a whiff of Cabourn in the orange coat, but that’s no bad thing. (Uniqlo)

Uniqlo Patchwork Flannel Check Shirt

30 October 2009, 18.30 | Posted in Fashion | 5 comments »

selectism - uniqlo-patchwork-flannel-check-shirt-01Here’s another choice pick from Uniqlo. They’ve been the style bloggers secret weapon for eons now – we can’t think of any other high street brand who get namchecked in Monocle and has their own Supertalk thread – and pieces like this prove why they’ve retained that status. Patchwork shirts have a definite marmite effect on people; you either love it, hate it or hate that you love it. Us? we love it, but only in certain colourways (like the purple one above). We’re also in love with the price, coming in at an affordable £14.99. (Uniqlo)

Take a leap to see the rest of the collection after the leap.

UNIQLO +J Light Down Jacket

21 October 2009, 23.43 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

Selectism - UNIQLO +J Light Down Jacket

A very aggressively priced puffa downer from the +J collection at UNIQLO. It’s priced so well that they limit one jacket per person for pruchase. Must be something in that padding I would say. While the hype has been insane around the +J collection, this piece shines as an example of simplicity done right. Nice +J hit on the zip-up. (UNIQLO UK)

Uniqlo Cashmere Cardigan

13 October 2009, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

selectism - uniqlo-cashmere-cardigan

It’s time for an upgrade. We believe that every guy should have at least two cashmere jumpers in his wardrobe. You’ll appreciate it, your girlfriend/boyfriend will appreciate it – everybody wins. As a staple piece in a wardrobe shouldn’t be too kerrazy in the colour stakes, we’re gonna stick with the fundamentals here – strictly navy and grey. Save the light purple for your fourth cashmere purchase. (Uniqlo)

+J Denim Shirt

06 October 2009, 13.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

selectism - plus-j-uniqlo-denim-shirt-01

Now that the dust has settled on Jill Sander’s collection for Uniqlo, we can take a cool and considered look at our favourite pieces. While the funnel jacket and trousers all scored highly, our numero uno piece had to be this denim shirt.

It’s rare to see a denim shirt truly stripped down to the basics – no western shoulder patches, no weird pockets, no embellishments – just a great plain denim shirt. And it’s at a reasonable price of £25. We know you could probably get a slightly more special version if you proxy it straight from some obscure Japanese brand, but sometimes we prefer not to spend all our money on clothing. (Uniqlo)
